Which have you enjoyed watching the most? Been the most exciting etc?

For me its definitely been the sycnhronized diving. Excellent stuff altogether and usually up the air until the final dive of the final round.

    the diving is magic.

can't believe it. i flicked off the men's 3 metre dive for a second and when i came back it was showing the chinese divers getting out of the water getting 0.0 points. i was like "how the fck can you get no points?" reckoned one of them must have fell off the board.

    missed the streaker!

Yep one fell off the board. They were first all the way thru as well up until that fateful final dive. Then 2 dives later one of the Americans hit the board with his toes on the way back downand they scored v v low.

P.S. Wasnt a streaker, it was a guy dressed in traditional Greek clothing!

He didn't fall off the board, he just ****ed up half way through his dive and hit the water in a sort of reverse belly-flop position.

And I have to say the swimming has been much more exciting.
Sycnhronized diving hasnt really thrilled me. Its like another sycnhronized swimming event -BORING!

Well, perhaps you have to be a shooter to appreciate it, but the Women's 10m Air Pistol event was the closest-fought finals that I can remember in the Olympics - there were tiebreaking shootoffs for the Gold, the Bronze and fifth place, and the girl who finally took the Gold had fought up from last place at the start of the finals to take it.

The swimming has been my highlight so far.
The men's 200 Freestyle and the 4 x 100 mens relay have been the two highlights.

Some of the mens floor exercises have been good.
Looking at them makes me tired.

I haven't seen much. The swimming is always the big thing on the first week. I was looking at the womens' gymnastics this evening, which the Romanian team won. It is incredible what they can do. I did not see any of the diving.

Men's cycling road race, with half the field quitting due to the intense heat. And Paolo Bettini, the coolest and nicest guy in cycling, winning. Forza!

I'm not overly interested in the first week really, just the swimming , actually sorry to divert but does anyone know what time the final is on at today, think its one of the 100m ones. Van Den Hoogenband and Thorpe are in it anyway. I really ejoy the Track and Field and am looking forward to Friday.

Only thing though, there are a lot of athletes missing through injury, drugs etc. Might not make for a great games.

No highlights yet unless you count Perto Rico beating "USA! USA! USA!" in basketball. ;)

    Mike.

The mens 100m freestyle is on today at 18.20

I can't believe USA were beaten in the basketball. What was the game like?

Did'nt see much of it but afterwards it was reckoned they were'nt much cop as a team dispite all the individual talent (bit like the Ryder Cup!)

The basketball has to my highlight so far. I was on the edge of my seat watching the Puerto Rico v USA game. I had hoped that Greece could have won as well, but it was still a good game.

The 200m freestyle swimming was cool as well. That Thorpe young fella is great, I reckon he has a future in swimming if he just knuckles down and gets a good leaving cert.

The "Duck and Cover" event with Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou taking joint Gold has been excellent.

I have to say the badminton final was pretty amazing.

    Men's 5,000m - astonishing last few laps.

Edit: Ooops! I meant the 10,000m of course.

There have been a number of good athletics events. The men's 100m and 1500m both had really close finishes. Exactly what you want. They will be remembered.

The Gymnastics has been fantastic this year. I was really disappointed when Alexei Nimov missed his landing off the high bar in the mens individual apparatus. He had a great crowd pleasing routine, very spectuacular and pretty much perfect execution. He would have been a clear gold medal winner if it wasn't for a foot out of place at the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

I didn't see any of the mens stuff and only some of the womens. It is great to watch, even when you get the few "OUCH!" moments. The velodrome events are good as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,414 ✭✭✭✭Trojan

Agree with the Nimov (mens individual) performance - he was spectacular. Great to see the power of a crowd too, although it was unfortunate for the poor guys on after him :)

    Olympics - sports-junkies heaven :)
