Right i need a little help here :)

I got my new raptor drive today so i tried the following,

using Norton Ghost i cloned my original OS from my IDE hard drive onto my Sata hard drive. I've set the Sata as active.

Now if i remove the old ide hard drive i get an error saying that windows can not be found. I thought to myself, ok obviously did something wrong. So i plug the old ide hd back in and reboor. Get the same error agaon. I think hmmz, maybe the sata is the first boot device so i unplug that and reboot. All boots up ok, so i plug the sata back in and reboot. It boots up without a problem.

Thats bascially where i am atm. What do i need to do to get Xp to load from the sata drive. I realise a re-install will fix all my problems but i'd prefer to learn how to do this.

Any tips/help would be appreciated. Thanks

Use either partition magic and copy it over within the dos progam.
The floppy that came with your HD should have a file program again in DOS.

XP may reject the new HD and not have a driver installed to boot from it (it can boot and see it before you copy ,but not when you copy it as its booting from it and expecting to be booting from an IDE if yah kow what i mean ) < makes no sense read it slowly and loudly :)

I got a new SATA drive and have no floppy currently making partition magic boot from cd ,which it doens tlike doing :)
But then its just copy and paste remove the IDE boot up XP set it as default version, stick back in IDE select the Sata from the OS choices menu and when you happy it working format the IDE.

you may need to edit your boot.ini to reflect the new address of your HD.

the IDE controller will have been lower than that SATA
