Yeah you just go to the check-in desk with your reference number as e-tickets is just a way of doing away with the paper tickets which cuts out alot of work for the check-in staff. You reference number will have your ticket numbers and details, You should really have a print out of the booking as immigration can ask to see your flight details to see when your returning but you only need the reference number for check-in .

Funny, I just bought an e-ticket from Lufthansa!
Make sure and bring the credit card you used to purchase the ticket along with you - sometimes you need to produce it to get your seat. I have flown 20+ flights with e-tickets, many transcontinental, and have never had any problems. Plus it saves you some cash :)

You don't need the credit card at all in relation to your e-ticket. an E-ticket has the exact same information as a regular ticket its just a cheaper what for the airlines to keep overheads down. And you didn't need your C/c for regular tickets

Some airlines do require the credit card you booked with along with the e-ticket. bmi, Virgin Atlantic being two that I've flown with that looked for the card.

The reference number is their passenger name record (PNR) for you. It has everything they know about you in it. Once you can prove who are you (e.g passport) thats all theyneed to match the two up.

Check with the airline. Most of them have work-arounds for those whose e-tickets were booked on someone elses card.

They are notorious for overbooking in the US. I would make sure you are in time for your flight and confirm it beforehand. You will also have various checkpoint related stuff to go through.

Pre 9/11 you could chop and change flights easy. I got a flight 4 hours ahead of schedule from Texas to Hawaii just by walking up to the check in desk and asking questions. Don't know if that is still the case.
