Fixing a buckled wheel / Replace ?

The rider behind me ploughed into me over the weekend, damaging my back wheel pretty badly.

The wheel is a red Vuelta Airline 2 (from a 2001 Trek 1000). Buckle is bad enough that I couldn't wheel the bike home even after releasing the brakes their full distance.

Basically the buckle is such that it pretty much touches the bottom and top rear fork at various points during a full revolution of the wheel.

Does this sound fixable or should I replace ?

I imagine it will be difficult to get an exact replacement as trek no longer use these wheels and thus they will be quite hard to come by. From a cosmetic point of view I would like the same color wheels front and back so am I looking at new wheels ? If so any recomendations ?

probably a replacement, especially as they're *relatively* speaking cheap wheels. You could just replace the rims rather than the wheels - if they're standard number of spokes. If not, and you're fussy that'll be a pair of wheels then :)

Well dammitt anyway, I'll kill that SOB.

Forgot to mention that if I take the rear brake off totally, then the wheel turns.

I guess though thats still too bad to repair. The exact rim might be tough enough to replace / find. Looking at Mavic CXP 33's perhaps.

I can't give you a definite answer without spinning the wheel in my hands. And even then if it was bad I'd probably only be able to tell you after I'd had a go, of course a more experienced bod would prob know better immediately.

Just been to the bike shop where the wheel was pronnounced DOA.

Not a chance it seems.****e anyway.

Anyone selling a decent set of wheels ?

I've seen wheels that have been in a bad way restored to their original condition. Have a go at fixing it yourself, you might get it straight but be left with a hop or flat-spot, even they can be fixed sometimes.
You could always use the wheel for the winter if your still not happy with the final condition

I've got those same wheels i think. A few spokes are breaking lately. Haven't got it fixed since the last one went. Just that lazy. Being using my mountain bike instead for my commute to work. Its more fun i have to say, but a lot slower on 2.1"s :)
Question is, if a few spokes are starting to go, does that mean they are all getting weak? Should i get a proper job done on it?

Are you sure you can't still get Red Airline 2s? They are still advertised on Vuelta's Website and are found on a number of websites ($27 + $15 shipping to Ireland, unless the rim falls unde their 'large item' exception - likely). Could save you replacing both.

I had that very same bike a year or so ago until I gave up on drop handlebars due to my back. I've got a rear Mavic CXP 33 on my Specialised Sirrus now (after a car ploughed into the back of me) and it seems to be a good wheel; no problems so far. Cost was €165 made with spokes and a Tiagra hub in Cycleways.
