Hi, I'm hoping to goto NYC for 20/21/22 Dec to 3/4/5 January

I have no idea, where to go, who to book through, what area to avoid etc.

I've been looking at flights from Aer Lingus which are around 850 for 2 ppl

Id also be looking for suitable accomodation(hotel, B+B anything), accessible to landmarks etc.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated

The Aer Lingus flight seems to be the best price around that time (I've checked a few airlines and thats about the going rate - and its a direct flight)/

As for Hotels - there are plenty in and around the Time Square area - it's all dependent on the price you want to pay. Hotels rooms in New York can be quite small, and some hotels would be best avoided. Any idea what kind of hotel you want (price, class etc?).

Looking for a room for 2, 1 bed with bathroom

Budget would be around 500euro a week

Had a look at the hotels, all the relatively decent ones will push you over the budget (most due to the christmas/new year holiday days). You might need to re-think the hotel budget, unless you're willing to stay somewhere less salubrious :)

    Thanks,

Have you got any links, i dont mind going a wee bit over budget if its worth it.

Check out www.hotels.com, it's normally a good place to start. Don't book a hotel without checking it out on tripadvisor.com - which is normally good for sorting the wheat from the chaff.

New Jersey will be cheap, but it's a fair distance from the center of things. TBH I think you need to stay in Manhatten to get the best of it all, especially if you want to do the sights - someone else might have another idea :)

I have stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania a few times and it is fine, cheap and in a good location.ITS ABOUT $99 per room per night but for every 3 nights you stay they give you the 4th free. Its Huge around 2000 rooms,as for location in the heart of midtown is directly opposite Madison Square Garden and Amtrak's Penn Station,Macy's, the world's largest department store, is one block up the street. The Empire State building one block away.

The place is so big if you dont like the room just tell them you want a change...I did this 4 times before ontill I got a room with a view.Check them out its a good cheap clean Hotel.

I'd reccomend the bedford hotel. I was there in June. It's pretty basic but it is a mins walk from Grand central and it is quite cheap. Lots of really nice restaurants round the corner

    Tripadvisor rating

Mine is the review from Dublin

    Hope this helps....

Yep - the Bedford Hotel is excellent value. Clean and very well located. Grand Central 2 mins walk, Empire State 10 mins walk and Broadway only about 15-20 mins walk. Its not The Hilton but if you're on a budget it's ideal. I've recommended it to a rake of peeps in work and they all loed it - I think it was actually renovated a few weeks ago.

Great time of the year to be in NYC.
I was there for the millenium and although it was cold and a little snowy, it's not the "damp-cold" we have here. I was wearing a t-shirt most of the time.

Places to avoid? Nowhere really, to be honest. Not half as dangerous as Dublin is at night.

Hotels won't be cheap that time of year.

New Jersey is kind of out of the way. You have to catch a bus through the tunnel from the Port Authority, which isn't bad, but it's not really convenient and they don't run often after a certain time. You'll want to stay in Manhattan if at all possible.

The Howard Johnson's on Lexington is supposed to be really good for the price. I haven't been there in years, so it's probably gone up in rates, but then it was about $100 a night.
