    does anyone know the story with vat when an irish vat registerd company buys from an english company? Buying stuff for itself and also buying stuff for resale?

    To answer your second question first, if you are buying for resale as a vat registered company there is no vat payable on the purchase. You will still have to return vat to the revenue on the sale of it.
    Buying for yourself you should pay uk vat, which is not reclaimable in ireland. However most uk companies when you produce a vat number, including the IE prefix, even though it is for yourself, will deduct the vat.
