Does anybody know of a way that I can trick windows into thinking I've rebooted!??? Basically when I do a windows update, sometimes I download the .exe files directly from the MS website and install them. However most of these require a reboot, which means i've to stay back late or come in extra early in order to reboot our servers so as not to affect users!!! Is there a way around this???

Can't you reboot your servers remotely? Or schedule it?

Short answer, no, as sometimes its necessary for Windows to use these files on startup, hold them in memory, or use them close to the kernel level of the OS.

why not put pcanywhere on as a service or set up terminal services

and then just log on from home and do it that way

You should be able to schedule reboots to occur when you're not there.

No worries, thought there may be a shortcut. There used to be in Win98. Not to worry. Will go with the scheduling idea. Cheers guys!
