Just heard about the poor Leitrim fella that drowned last night in Gran Canaria. Messing with the lads by the pool after too much drink.

Imagine how his friends are all feeling now & their families back home.

Just wanted to post this here in case somebody reads it & if they get drunk on hols and go near a pool they might remember this post.

Or the sea even. In fact it's best not to eat before swimming either as (I think) your blood tends to go to your stomach to digest the food asopposed to getting oxygen for your muscles. Therefore your muscles can cramp easily rendering you swimmingless.

And don't switch on a light without drying your hands first.

Well in fairness, tragedy as it is and all, the two things would (or should, but I guess this proves otherwise) generally be considered a bad idea.

    so what's the craic here?

just say i fill up on booze/food and go for a swim, do you just lock up and sink or do you get really b*llockesed?

dying in a pool is unfortunate, one shout surely is all that's needed inorder to get attention - and not a joke shout. unless they were pushing each other under n' all.

As mentioned above you will be more likely to get a cramp (or a "stich" as we call a cramp in your side). While I have swam after eating I have never swam after drinking but I can imagine that it would hinder your coordination.
