I’m not quite sure if this is the right place for posting this query but here goes.

I live fairly close to the border with Northern Ireland and about 4 or 5 miles from one of the larger BBC/ITV transmitters. If I bought one of the freeview boxes would I be able to pick up the signal and watch the extra programmes and channels that are now available.

Probably best to post it in the ICDG Terrestrial forum.

    What transmitter are you near?

Thanks for the tip re site to post query.

I am not sure of the exact name of the transmitter/local area but it is located about 3 or 4 miles from Strabane, Co. Tyrone close to the Donegal border

I was going to move it to ICDG Terrestrial, but I see you have already posted there. :)

Thanks Celt. I had just logged on and decided to deal with it right of way.
Unforunately I am still on the old dial up internet access and have a max. no. of hours per month that I can avail of so I tend to log on and off as quickly as possible. The phone is also inactive when I am logged on so this does not help things.

Thankfully broadband has just become available here in the last couple of weeks

Unfortunately freeview reception does not currently seem to be available in Strabane.

When it does become available there, you are close enough to have a very good chance of recieving the signals in your home, if you currently get a good terrestrial TV signal from that transmitter.

    Thanks again for the help.

I checked out the link re freeview in Strabane and it is not available at present apparently. As they say in Ireland, they are cute whores!! (no offence)
It would appear that the Strabane transmitter is a bit too close to the border for them.
I'm surprised at this actually because the people who really deserve to benefit from this service are the people of Strabane. They really should be lobbying for something that the rest of the Province has.
