Building multimedia PC?

    Hey everyone,
I live in a shared house at the moment and it's a pain when wanting to watch tv, dvd or play playstation... everyone can't agree. So I was thinking of building a multimedia/games PC for my bedroom. My main priority is having a PC that is ultra quiet yet quite powerful, eg if I leave on my PC to download a file overnight I don't want to listen to a humming sound coming from the corner of the room while trying to sleep.

I would be looking to have a PC that can play the latest games (Doom3, Half Life 2, etc), watch/record tv (maybe even radio??), watch DVD's, burn my own home movies, and to store my CD collection. Would be nice if I had a remote to interact with the DVD, TV and my music collection.

Is it possible to build something like this, yet have it silent?
Of course, noise wouldn't be too much of an issue while playing games but I would like it to be silent while playing a DVD. I use a laptop at the moment for playing DVD's and the noise drives me crazy!!
