Upgrading Sky+ hard drive

    Hi all,

Since reports on digitalspy indicate that the infamous 17min bug may now be resolved, I figured I might open a thread on this (I know some people mentioned it in the recent software update thread).

Actually what I really what to know is where I might get the required Torx T10 tamper-proof screwdriver so as to open the Sky+ box. That's a T10 with a hole in it.

I have a friend with a Western Digital 120Gb drive, for whom I may buy a replacement 160Gb ... Looks like there's still a 137Gb limit on the Sky+ but there's only about €10 between a 120/160, hence the swap. Somebody on www.hummer.co.uk did try out the WD drive, and it worked, but they thought it was noisy/hot. Most people seem to be using Maxtor, since it's the same manufacturer as the original drive. Any comments?

    Ix.

Kesh Electronics actually supply a Samsung 120 GB Hard Drive and you can buy the screwdriver also from their site. However the pricing seems a little high at £130 for the lot including P&P.http://www.keshelectrics.co.uk/

With Sky's announcement yesterday of the new Thomson 160GB Sky+ Box due to go into production in October, I read there will also be an option for upgrades to existing boxes, and wheither this is a subsidation of the new box for existing owners,or an upgrade kit,or an engineer callout with the associated charges, remains to be seen.

I too intend to upgrade, but would prefer to wait and see what will happen, especially as I have another six months left on my warranty.I rang Sky this morning but they will not discuss the new product prior to its release.
