    Hi all,
My passport yesterday went though the wash (left in one of my back pockets) :p my question is will it still be accepted by airports and customs etc? Just need to make sure so i'm not prevented going to the Us.
    Thanks,
    Rob

The US Immigration service people can be a nightmare. Save yourself the hassle and worry and get a new one.

Use the Post Office express service. If thats not quick enough, you need to go in to the passport office.

Definitely get a new passport. Mine fell into a pint when I was in San Diego a few years back. It was fine for a couple of other trips, but beacuse the back was coming away from the page where the photo is attched, I was almost stopped going to Paris for a weekend last year. It would be awful to miss out on a trip away for such s illy thing. Defo get a new one. Doesn't cost as much as if you were renewing it. Send in the complete renewal cost with the express service and they'll refund you the extra bit afterwards.

    Enjoy your trip.

My cousin a good few years back did the exact same thing. She sent in the passport and then had special branch around to her house a few days later asking all sorts of questions.

Turns out in the wash it had removed the plastic backing without damaging the paper, so they weren't sure if the photo on the back was the real one. Again this is a good few years back.

Actually they don't do replacement passports anymore. They stopped it in March of this year.

For the past 2 days I can't seem to get though to the passport office number in Dublin. Does anyone know what kind of replacement I need? Or do I have to apply for a completely new one? Getting too close to the date of departure so I guess I'm gonna have to go up to Dublin to get it :(.

Get your ass into the passport office , You will need your original passport , two passport photos ( both signed) and your birth cert ( long copy ) ...

They will issue a new passport on the spot ..

    Hey Presto !!!

    Rob

Just as a matter of interest, is the maximum number of passports that any citizen can receive due to damage/loss 3? if so, would showing them the damaged passport mean it would still be counted?

the americans are making everyone worried about visiting the country. I am going to visit my cousin there in october on my way home from oz and i am not looking forwad to it one bit. I'll have to deal with the american passport control in fiji, then again in LA as i have a 10 hour stop over and agian in NY leaving the place. All this just to visit my cousin. Well she better be in one hell of a good mood when i arrive.

Another thing to remember about passports when going to the States is that their new rules state that you won't be allowed into the country if there's less than 6 months left to run on your passport.
