Hope someone has a solution to this as its a real pain.

Anyway, I just got a new iFP-890, and all is good except every now and again while playing mp3s the whole machine reboots sometime with a a long beep. Im ripping the mp3s at 160 vbr - has anyone else experienced this or has a solution ??

First thing i would do is try using other mp3 codecs; Radium or LAME (my preferred one).

VBR can be highly dynamic; especially with certain songs. Maybe that's causing the problem.

Trying limiting the range so it won't screw much; e.g 128 - 160.

    Alternatively just try plain CBR.

I'm open to other ideas?

went to the iriver forum, the question has already been asked - no answer yet. Thought a boardy would have maybe come across the problem and solved it.

I use LAME with EAC. I dont really want to use cbr, vbr makes alot more sense when encoding i.e. if more bps is needed use it. All the iriver models (or at least all the newer ones) support vbr between 8 and 320kbps and ,as far as i know, thats the min and max for LAME too - so there shouldnt be a prob there.

Im gonna do a bit of experimenting tomorrow and try to spot exactlly whats happening.

Could be a firmware bug. Did you check for updated firmware off their website?
