FDD installation problem....

I've finally decided to put in a FDD on my own rig, and for the life of me can't figure out where I'm going wrong! I have an NF7-s, a no-name fdd drive from maplins, a fdd cable like this fddcable.jpg . I'm connecting the Motherboard connector to the motherboard. (thought that would be a good move) and the 3.5" Drive A connector to the drive, along with the molex type power connection. Not reading and floppies. Checked my bios settings, and I can see a light on the drive, depending on whether the A connector has the red portion one way or the other. The cable doesn't have a blank hole on either end (which puzzled me) and even more oddly, when I went to get another older working fdd cable which does have the blanked holes, it won't fit onto the board connector as the board has no missing pin on FDC1!

COuld someone please tell me where I'm going wrong?

    THanks,

    Mark

Sound like you have the floppy cable connected upside down.
It's annoying that they don't have a blank hole but Fdd's are just annoying, it's in their nature!

theres only four ways to connect the cable to the drive and board
swap the position on the floppy, check it, swap position on board, check it, then swap position on floppy again, check it

I haven't seen a floppy cable with the 5.25" connectors in years... old school!

The red wire should be hooked up to pin one on the socket. This is probably marked on the motherboard, and possibly on the FDD too.

i was under the impression that he couldnd find pin or even know what it looks like, but there are still only 4 possible ways to insert the cable
