I have done some searching and the range of options is dithering can some knowldgeavle person recommend something.

I'm looking for a Wireless broadband router with 4+ Port Ethernet Switch + Firewall + Print server to share ADSL, a few VPN ports might be handy too but not neccessary.

Can anyone recommend a good but cheap piece of kit that is easy to set-up - for someone whos good at everything bar networks.

This is for a home office that will, fingercrossed, hopefully grow.

    dunno about a kit but

Wireless BB - DLink 604+ - have it love it!, no stealth mode! I don't know if many routers have it though

go either with a DLink or Linksys, you might want to get 1GB lan, because everyone will move to it soon

NIC - just any - 3com are nice

Firewall - Outpost Firewall Pro, Sygate, Zone alarm pro, and the last the best but not the easiest - Look'N'Stop

would you recommend Dlink and Linsys over netgear ? or are they all equally as good , approx.

i ve been meaning to buy 1 but i think dslwarehouse.ie have started selling usb wireless adapater instead of the pcmcia 1 with the router

    pencil check out www.dslwarehouse.ie
nice offers, freee wifi card with router etc.

    sorry forgot about Netgear Placebo

    they are good!

basically Dlink, LinkSys and NetGear are leading networking equipment companies

    so here's what do to

    1. defermine --- what features/ how many ports / wireless --- do you need
    2. go to their websites and search for the router that has all the features you need
    3. write down the models
    4. go to networking forums, for Dlink, I'd recommend http://www.expansys.com/forumoverviewcat.asp?man=D-LIN
and ask what do people think of them
    also ask here http://www.techimo.com/forum/f14/index.html
    5. compare the pros/cons of them
    6. go with the one that has the least cons! or the cons that won't bother you!

for Dlink 604+ for example it used to lock up when I was using p2p apps = lots of connections so I had to disable proxy DNS, that prolly is the only con of this thing and the other is, it has to stealth feature, I think latest routers offer that!

anyways, I don't think you will go wrong with either of them, those 3 have big support, and make good products, I chose Dlink over linksys/netgear, because I like Dlink's design! and the features were the same

As well as the above, have a look at the Broadband Report forums. The hardware boards - Linksys, D-Link,Netgear, etc - can be very informative.

I would recommend the D-Link G604T, I have it, works great, firewall is stealth mode (incoming only a sper usual, need software fw to stop outgoing).
