I've gotten really lazy and haven't been to the gym in about a month  I want to start going to the gym in the mornings because I'm tired of bumping into people I work with in the evening. Anyhoo to get to the point what should I eat before/after working out in the morning to stop me feeling sick/tired when I go to work after the gym. I find that if I try swimming in the morning(i'm crap at swimming) I can get really weak to the point where I feel sick and faint. If I just stick to cardio machines I usually get a headache or feel really tired in work...

i suppose what your body uses for energy-carbs...so maybe weetabix, shredded wheat, or any similar complex carbs...i tell you a bowl of steel-cut porridge (not the instant crap like ready-brek) wil keep you going for hours.

I usually train over in westwood around 7am - might seeya there ;)

As above have some complex carbs. Keep it light because after training finishes you'll want to eat again but you also don't want to run out of energy during the session.

So before training have a slow release carb source, rolled oats, porridge, wheetabix anything like that after training take in some protein with a simple carb, dextrose, maltodextrin etc... crucial for recovery and supercompensation.

OK so I went to the gym this morning and I'm STILL thirsty and have a bit of a headache - thats after a big apple, a breadsticks+cheesey dip thing, rice krispie square (yum yum), soup+roll a few litres of water and a can of coke! Now my thyroid makes me thirsty all the time but I'm really thirsty now...Should I go for something like Viper or one of those powder/milkshake type drinks to rehydrate me after a work out or are they crap? I had 2 litres while I was training this morning...

The mag Cycling News recommends fruit cocktail before training and porridge after.

I would try the fruit cocktail before training and maybe some raw eggs and lots of water or lucazade sports during trainaing and porridge and a banana after training.

Do they not defeat the purpose of the gym. Seems like a bit too much of the crap sugary food there.

Why not have s smoothie with berries, banana + Orange Juice. Keep ya going for a while and good for ya. You could even throw some protein powder in there but swap the OJ for skimmed milk.

Coke is hypertonic and dehydrates you, acting as a diuretic.

    1 Banana
    1/2 punnet strawberries
    Glass Orange Juice
    OR
    1 Banana
    1 Kiwi Fruit
    Skimmed Milk
    OR
    1/2 Melon of choice
    1/2 punnet Strawberries
    1 Banana
    OJ

    etc, etc

Just keep mixing different stuff to see what you like. I always add a banana for the energy.
Feel free to add some protein powder or alcohol as required!!!
