Erratic ISDN connection

Im running single line isdn, and it keeps getting bogged down when browsing.

The OS is Win2kPro and its patched to the max. Ive got zonealarm and avg running, and I run updated Adaware on a regular basis. I have ran the connection on both IE6 SP1 and Mozilla 1.7.1

When I connect to ANY isp - Eircom, Oceanfree - my "browsing experience" gets very erratic. The pages will load half way, maybe more, or less. Some pages may load completely and others will just sit there, doing nothing, as if waiting for data to magically come down the line. My "two green friends" stop blinking as if they are finished, yet clearly the pages have not loaded.

Ive formatted the HD and re-installed the lot, patching the system BEFORE I went online again.

So I ask you....WTF IS GOING ON

what ISDN modem do you have?? and if you can, point out the drivers for me on driverguide.

    Currently using ASUSCOM PCI-100 Modem

    Drivers (from Device Manager)
    Provider: ASUSCOM
    Version: 3.6.49.1901

I have also tried a Billion ISDN PCI Modem, with the same problems. So I reckon its either my PC/OS (funky win2k settings, like QoS ?) or the isdn line itself

have u got call waiting on the line? as far as i remember that can interfere with ISDN lines, also did it ever work properly for you? I've a load of notes on ISDN, i'll have a gander and see if i can come up with anything. Who's your ISP by the way?

Afaik we dont have call waiting, just call answering, but I'll check that out. It worked great for a good few months, then about 2 months ago it went dodgey.

Ive tried Eircom and Oceanfree, but they both give me the same kind of performance.

who was your original ISP? i had a look at the notes there, is there a specific error code? i had this problem a while ago on my broadband, it started happening as soon as i took nortons off the machine, i think it was still trying to update or something? let's know exactly what's happening and i'll see if i can help.

its an annoying solution, and it might not work. but one of the win2k updates used to make isdn completely un-useable for me. try-uninstalling them all and see if your connection gets any better. if that does not work, format, install 2K SP4, install firewall, DO NOT INSTALL ANY PATCHES, and check out if ISDN is working properly. if so, its one of the updates screwing it up

Guess what lads. IM on ISDN now and its working away a blinder. I cannot believe that its a patch or software install thats causing it, otherwise wouldnt it be more consistent ? It being more erratic must suggest that its hardware fault somewhere.

Of course tomorrow all could be different

Aligator the orginal ISP that I used most often was Oceanfree, but would switch to Eircom if I needed to access any webspace on eircom accounts. Im getting no error messages, just really crappy transmission and a **** load of dropped packets (looking at the isdn monitor)

steven Id love to try that method, but tbh if my isdn doesnt work with a fully patched system thats designed to prevent attacks then I dont really wanna chance going online without em. Im paranoid :)

Thanks for all the assits guys

a firewall or the patches will save you from attacks. im running 3 non-patched 2k machines behind a firewall ( adsl modem/router ) and no problems. the problem i had with isdn was a permanent thing though. it wasnt an erratic problem it was a case of no isdn whatsoever when the patch was installed. it also prevented me from removing the isdn card from device manager.
