second hand call of duty cd-key?

I'm about to buy a second hand call of duty from a friend, I was just wondering if I will be able to use the CD-key(it's a legit key) online? with gamespy and other servers, I think he played couple of times online but not sure or is it like with Counter-Strike Stream, once you registed the cd-key with your account, nobody…

If you use the same cd key as him you can both play but just not at the same time. Maybe you can play at the same time but not on the same server.
