Teeth Question.

While drinking out of a cup one night on the couch with a friend, he managed to elbow the cup while it was in my mouth, forcing it back against my tooth. While the tooth or gum wasn't damaged in anyway, the gum above it immediately felt sensitive when it came into contact with water, my tounge, etc. After two days or so the sensitivity was reduced somewhat, two weeks later though and I'm still left with that somewhat feeling in the gum. The tooth isn't lose or damaged and neither is the gum but yet I'm still experienceing a slight sensitivity in the gum (by that I mean a very slight throb in the gum just above the tooth). While there isn't any visible signs of damage I've got a nagging fear that the tooth will fall out! A friend suggested that maybe the nerve above the tooth has been tweaked a little and should right itself in a few weeks.

Has anyone a similar story to give me advice on what I should do, even just to put my mind at rest! Going to a dentist is an obvious solution but I can't afford to go in only for him to tell me that it'll fix itself and I've already had my yearly checkup two months ago.

My friend once hit me (by mistake) with a metal thing, front teeth, after that, they were moving slightly, so i went to dentist, she dipped something in cotton and touched each one of my teeth to check if the nerves were still up, if i felt something = alive, which i did, anyway later a after a month i went to another dentist who took X-rays and said that my teeth had minute cracks in them, but my nerves/gums were okay, after that my teeth recovered slowly, few months.

Recently i got in a fight with a scanger and i got a blow to the same place *ouch* and every time i sneezed or blew my nose i felt a weird sensation, i had a feeling they were loose again, blinking caused pain again, once again back to the dentist , xray again, he said , it didnt break and will recover so heres the main thing, what both the doctors said,

my nerves were not dead BUT they can GO DEAD in a few months or even a year, its rare but can happen, symptom = when teeth/tooth starts to discolour.
When that does happen, i think they can put it back in hopefully, as for yours, id go to dentist and check out the damage but hopefully nothing major but just to reassure, dentist recently cost me 50 and apparently they give you it back if your working and provide your pps number or something ? but i havent gotten mine back yet, they said it takes a while

    good luck

Most dental care is covered by PRSI, with a small contribution from the patient.

If your records aren't up to date, it might take a while. Talk to the Records Section in Social Welfare and check if things are up to date (i.e. last December).
