On a side note from my post in Committe Tasks, Jim also issued a challenge to us, the colleges as a group, to put together a team to shoot against his school archers in a friendly competition. Could be interesting/a bit of a laugh.

Having seen some of those schools guys shoot, they are indeed pretty good, as good as any Junior EuroNations of previous years - they probably wouldnt best the more experienced intervarsity archers but it would be an interesting competition all the same :)

    Definately... Well worth doing. :)

well as ive shot with them for 2 years i know we have the beatings of them(although they're all pretty good, the junior team finished 2nd in the junior euronations this weekend and niall doyle won the overall gents recurve section too)
indoors on a beginner face they'd score about 530's and 2 years ago i averaged 560's so im sure a good few of our IV lads would give them a run for their money.
as far as i can remember at the last fita 18 they did they all averaged between 950 and 1000(some were slightly over this) so i reccon that the more experienced archers would easily have the upper hand!!
as far as outdoors is conserned only 3 of them have shot the gents fita and they all got 900's which isnt too shabby! id say 4 of them can hit well enough at 70m to hold an OR style shoot, we'd just have to decide on how many members on a team to make it fair!
id be up for some friendly competition with them, it would give us both something extra to work towards and its been ages since i kicked some ass at a schools comp!!!!

Well we have a couple of options(sorry has to be said, 900 at Mens FITA? fecks sake, me and Claus put in 1001 and 1103 respectively back in 2000, kids these days... I wonder where Claus is, I must dig out his email address and see if his shooting ever recovered..)

    We can either:

    1. Hold a standard FITA18.

    2. Hold a Natonal-Indoors-style FITA18 OR, I like this idea, would be interesting to see how kids these days respond to a bit of pressure...

    3. Hold a FITA900, given thats their native distance. Im in favour of this too, Im curious to see if I have improved since 2001

    4. Mens FITA isnt really an option, as some of them wouldnt be able for it, and some of our lads wouldnt be able for it either :)

    5. Hold a FITA18 with big faces. Im against this, as if theyre good enough to manage a 585@FITA900 they can shoot a FITA18 on 40cm.

If memory serves it was 4 guys / 4 girls on a EuroNations team, no? Probably the best idea is for both sides to bring as many archers as they can, and take the best 4 male / female scores(if a straight forward shoot) / places (if an indoor OR) as the team scores.

    Opinions?

    Regards

    Ewan

p.s.: Maire, if youre talking to any of those school lads, a: ask them what uni theyre planning on going to, and b: tell them about boards.ie

pps: why are there no(or few) IAAA archers on here?

I'm sure Jim probably had some particular competition layout in mind when he suggested it so someone should probably contact him, let him know that a few people are interested.

Impressive... what was his score? Was Danny Clifford of Wales shooting or is he too old now?

i'll be up for any competition the doesn't involve 90m, although i hope to be able for that by september.

Anyone else going to the dublin archers shoot on 14/15 august?

danny was at the seniors this year, he didnt shoot too well(not too sure of his score). he wasnt shootin in the juniors, but he is still young enough so i dont know why!!
the weather conditions were pretty bad so im told but he shot 760's on the two days(the standard has been slowly dropping over the last few years)
fergal o connor is in cork but he as far as i know hes trying to get a club off the ground there so we'l prolly see him next year at some IV's. not sure what the other lads are doin when it comes to college bit ill find out next time i see them..
theres only 1 junoir lady(mairead) so a competition based on the top scores might be best and i think an 18m OR would be fun( but these guys all have experience at them and they are good under pressure) maybe the IV section should hold at least 1 before we have a competition so they can have some experience.
if we organise it for near the end of thr indoor season(maybe Feb) we will all be settled in and our scores should be consistant. and if the IV ppl enter into the team event in Jan they'll get more experience at head to head knockouts.

One last option occurred to me when I was at archery training - an OR at 50m on a 122cm face - works well for the Juniors at the Irish Open - opinions?

that keeps it nice and level so that experienced and newbie IV ppl can have a chance of gettin on the team.. although personally i HATE 50m on a 122... its the bain of my existence!! i doubt id get an any way good score but id give it a go for the sake of the team!!!!!

Ah come on Marie I mean Maire(im getting a kick in the nuts for that one next IV) 50m on a 122cm is piss easy, you could throw the arrows at the target and come out with an 8 :)

So who gets the job of ringing Conroy?

I think you seem _very_ eager to talk to him so I nominate you! ;p

I personally resent this remark, largely due to my complete inability to even hit a butt 50 metres away. grr

I'd be up for the indoor option because 1) I've gotton worse over the summer rather then better (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) and 2) Most of us have experience at competitions at this distance.

We don't want to make things too easy for them now, do we?
