    Hello all,

I have an asus a7n8x-x mobo. I remember reading somewhere recently where some punter upgraded his memory to 1gig from 512 and was actually seeing a degradation in gaming performance.

I have 2x256MB PC3200 dimms. Would adding a 512 dimm to my last available socket help? Or (even potentially) hinder?

Is there a "better" socket to put the 512 dimm in?

    Thanks!

    PC info:
    2800+ @ 3200+
    2x256MB PC3200
    Asus A7N8X-X mobo
    etc.
    Win2K SP4

No that will definately improve things.

There is no dual channel in that board is there? If there is use the 2x256 in dual and use the 512 in the other slot.

the fool must have been using windows '98:rolleyes:

not sure about Asus, but Abit tell you to put your ram in starting at slot 3... i'd put the 512mb module in that slot if i were you... shouldn't make an iota of difference though

If he added 512MB of ram that was slower than his existing ram he may have seen performance drops.
