I had an interview for a graduate job a few days ago for a well known organisation. Now they have contacted me and asked that a go in for a medical exam. They did not say anything about offering me the job.
Does being asked to go for a medical usually mean that you will be offered the job (assuming the medical goes ok)?

not in the slightest im afraid.
To be honest, i t really depends on the proceedures of different companies. some will send a candidate to a medical regardless of the situation, usually providing you pass a first round of interviews.

in general though, it would suggest that you have been selected to go further, but just realise that you may need to first pass the medical, and then have another bout of interviews.

    Thanks for the reply.
I should have mentioned that the interview was the first and final interview... they said so at the time.
Surely they wouldnt waste my time and their money (its a private seperate medical company) sending me to a medical if they werent thinking seriously about hiring me! Or is that just wishful thinking?

Doesn't mean much tbh, been sent on medical before on first interview, it's part of the standard interviewing procedure with some companies.

    indeedy.

by the way, whats the position you are going for?
if we know, we may be able to give you a better idea.
if you are going for a factory job, id say probably, if you are going for a stockbroker, i doubt it :)

    Hey,
It's a software engineering job, so I guess there are not many health hazards related to that kind of job. The company is a well known mutinational.
    Thanks for the replies!

    Good luck Giveth!

Many years ago I had to do a medical for a small software company - which was paid for by the company itself. I was offered the job subject to the medical - which I passed.

Against that, I know of a guy that was in the same situation with a different company, and for whatever reason he failed the medical , so didn't get the job. He'd already (and foolishly) handed in his notice at his previous job and had to go back begging.

Personally I would look on it as a good sign, but as koneko said they could do things differently. Wouldn't make any definite plans yet thou' :)

Thanks for the good luck. However it didnt work! I have spent the last 4 days in hospitol. I had to have surgery to reconnect a tendon in my foot after i dropped a blade on it. I have to wear a cast up to my knee for the next 4 weeks.

I have put the medical off until friday. My question now is, Will my injury cause me to fail the medical? I presume it wont cause its only a temporary injury (i hope). Also, I had a general anasthetic, morphine and loads of other drugs. Now i'm scared these will show up in the drugs test and they'll fail me on that.

Just my luck..... Ive never had any injury in my whole life, and just before my first medical, I almost chop off my big toe. I also had an interview for another job which I had to cancel. :dunno:

I suspect you may just get away with your tall tail of severed tendons to cover your high life of morphine cocktails drug parties...

Dont worry about, go for your medical. its not like they are going to ask you to run around a field (lucky you are not going to Man Utd for a trial eh? :))

Im sure with your prescription and drugs in hand, the doctor is not going to fail you on the grounds of of being in hospital.

If it's after the second interview I'd say that it's a pretty good indication that you're in.

It doesn't mean you are in. But it does mean you are not a dead duck. Medicals cost money. They would not send you on one unless you were at least in the running.

More than likely, but don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

Thanks for all of your opinions.
Today I was offered the job, so i guess a medical does mean you have a good chance of getting the job!! :)
    I'm Happy :p
