Pentax Optio 33LF Digital Camera [3MP 3xOptical] at amazon for £99.99

I've just purchased this camera (plus 128MB card) for a grand total of E200 (inc. del)

It costs E379.99 in Argos plus E49.99 extra for 128MB card = E429.98

    Thats more than half price...

It's got a plastic body hasn't it? Does it feel much more brittle than, say, a Canon Ixus (or any other camera with an aluminium outside or whatever it is), assuming it feels more brittle at all?

    Any bad points?

(GF is looking for one and this might be good at the price. There's also a Kodak at the same price on Amazon y'see)

Sorry that no one replied to your question sceptre! I just have another question about digital cameras. Is there any firewires(IEEE) in digital cameras. I just checked it for this one & it doesn't and I looked at alot more expensive cameras (2000 mark) and they also don't have any. I though USB connectivity was crap ??

Eh, what's wrong with USB? Its fine for a digital still camera, better still if its got USB2.0. Firewire is generally used on digital video cameras, as that actually needs the bandwidth.

no prob Stephen, i just thought that quality deteriorates if you use usb.
    thanks

No, the type of connection has no bearing on the quality :)

Generally, no - only on a handful of very very high end ones. Cameras are almost all USB 1.1. But it doesn't matter too much - you can take the memory card out and stick it in a firewire or USB 2 card reader (note the speed increase is not as great as you think it might be due to the inherent slowness of the flash media itself). This also saves on camera batteries.

i have one of these (pentax optio 33LF)

when i take a picture, there is a good 3 second delay between pressing the button and the picture actually being taken.

is this common to all cameras or is does it depend?

it's annoying cause when i take a picture, the people start walking off thinking it has been taken and that's what comes out in the photo.

i tried looking up the manual but could not see any way of changing the setting.

any help would be most appreciated.

jesus I thought something was up and then checked the date on the original post!

This is an oldskool digicamera. Delayed picture taking comes as standard with older (lesser) models. Upgrade :D

Read the reviews on what you upgrade to however as the shutter lag problem has most definitely _not_ been fixed accross the board, and new cameras are still being released with this problem. For example, I had a Pentax Optio S (Jan 2003) which had absolutely no shutter lag, upgraded to an Optio S6 (Aug 2005) which had dreadful shutter lag.
