Sound Cards

    Hi

This is an odd request but I am trying to help a mate out with a project he has in mind...

We are building a HTPC for the bedroom that is being overhauled at the mo.. Plasma screen and new AV system, the lot. He wants to be able to listen to something in the en-suite bathroom while still being able to watch a movie with sound in the bedroom. all from the HTPC.

So basically, I am thinking you would need two sound cards and would have to set the media player to output to a specific sound card..

Do any companies offer something that could be used to get the above up and running?

    Thanks

    Throw in any two soundcards.

Then, see what one gets picked by default by your video playing app, and then use Winamp/Foobar2000 to choose the other soundcard for outputting mp3's to. It will work fine.

If you want, i could test that for ya (if you want to be 100% sure it'll work.

So it sounds simple enough.. Is there anyway you can use multiple instances of the same media player to output to different sound cards..

Specifically so I could have a shortcut to Winamp labeled bedroom and another labeled bathroom and when whatever one is oppened, it only outputs to the appropriate room?

sure yeah. Just make two copies of the winamp folder, and open one exe and set it to soundcard1, then open the second EXE in the other folder and set it to use soundcard2. Then shourtcut them

It should work fine. I can't see why it wouldnt.
