Looking for bands for compilation

Any bands interested in getting their music included on the next Smalltown America compilation?

Jetplane Landing-run label Smalltown America are currently putting the finishing touches to the fifth volume in their series of Public Service Broadcast compilations, and are now looking for contributors to volume 6. PSB is based on a rather simple concept, that all profits from one release will fund subsequent releases. You won't make a cent, but neither will the label.

    Here's what you do:

Provide a track, free of charge. Thats it. No legal crap to deal with, no contracts to be signed, nothing.

    Here's what Smalltown America do:

Compile the CD, get it pressed, and sell it through the label's website (and at Jetplane Landing shows). All profits from the sale of the compilation will help fund subsequent PSB releases.

Irish bands previously featured include Throat, The Dudley Corporation, Fighting With Wire, Yakuza, and Rodan. PSBs has also featured some fine UK talent, including Ivroy Springer, Distophia, Fickle Public, The Dopamine Theory, Hyper Kinako and The Go! Team. Irish acts have been significantly under-represented to date, and since half of JPL are Derry boys, they'd like to see that change.

If you are interested, check Smalltown America or e-mail info@smalltownamerica.co.uk

Bands featured on previous PSBs can be seen here

Note: This is not a scam!!! Any concerns you have raise them with STA by e-mail.

    Thanks.

I've had a few questions asked about this, so hopefully this clears some of the issues up...taken from the STA website:

The idea behind PSB is very simple; we cram as much good music as we can onto a CD, press it as cheaply as we can, sell it for £5 at shows all round the UK and Ireland (as well as online) and reinvest all the profit into the next compilation. PSB#1 came out autumn 2003, completely sold out in 6 weeks and we made £322.50 – with that money we pressed 150 copies each of PSB#2 and PSB#3 which went on sale in april. from those profts we will finance psb#4. you get the idea. the plan is to release a new psb every 3 months. don't be shy - unlike most labels, our doors are always open to new bands so jiffy up, get licking those stamps and send your cd in.

By donating your track to a psb comp you are helping another set of bands get some exposure. It’s a furtherance of your own community and we're confident (based on past experience) it'll help open a few doors and raise awareness for you. Some previous contributors have recieved gig-bookings, interest from labels and regional radioplay etc as a result of appearing on our comps. Everyone who has so far contributed tracks has found appearing on PSB beneficial and productive for thier band.

Just to repeat WE DON’T MAKE ANYTHING FROM THIS AT ALL… there isn’t a catch, if you hear from us it means we like your music and want to expose other people to it. here's how it works...

1 you mail cd to us
    2 we listen to cd
3 we let you know if we're interested in including one of your songs on our next comp
4 you decide if you would like us to
5 we sequence, master and manufacture your song and all the others on the comp
8 we post the comps for sale on this website
9 we sell your comps at smalltown america shows
10 we post out promotional copies to people who will actually listen to the record and do something for both us and you with it
11 we sell all the copies of the record
12 all the profit - every penny - is spent on making the next comp
13 we will publish our accounts on this site - so you can see how we are getting on with sales etc.
14 we move onto the next record

if you have any questions please don't hesitate - contact@smalltownamerica.co.uk

That e-mail address is the correct one, original post cannot be edited to reflect this. Sorry.
