LUAS capacity - 235

AFAIR - there were signs up quoting the Luas capacity at 235 (or something similar).

That's all well and good, I'm not out to dispute that or anything, but having been on a ("parked") Luas in Abbey St., I was surprised how cramped it felt.

But I didn't think twice about it otherwise, until I went up one lunch time last week to see the Luas at Stephen's Green. Noticed the Sandyford route trams has 3 segments in the middle (think of a bendy bus with 3 smaller segments between the 2 ends).

Again I forgot about this until this week, because I've seen the Luas running on the Tallaght line (both Monday and today), and realised there's only one segment between the 2 ends, so its a lot shorter.

Anyone have an idea of what the capacity actually is - in the sense that having seen the 235 figure plastered around Heuston Station for instance - does that mean that the Tallaght line has a capacity of 235 per tram or is it really the Sandyford line that has that capacity - but someone forget to mention it in relation to the Tallaght line? Not trying to flame - I'm genuinely curious.

    D.

Not sure, but I know the trams for the Tallaght line were ordered with less carriages. I thought max capacity on the Sandyford line was 300 +

From connex.ie (now why didn't I think of looking there...)
Twenty-six 30-metre trams carrying up to 188 people will serve the Red Line and fourteen 40- metre trams carrying up to 264 people will operate on the Green Line, both with a maximum speed of 70 kph. The trams were built by Alstom and are their s uccessful Citadis model.
