second round interviews

    Hi all,

Went for an interview for a fairly decent job last week. I was one of 10 being interviewed out of 78 applications so I was already feeling rather lucky. Got a call this afternoon to request me to attend a second interview later this week.

My question is, what can I expect to be up against in the next interview? I mean I've already told them all about myself, my experience, qualifications, skills, been through a couple of hypothetical situations and the big salary question; so what's left to ask? I only ask because I've never actually gotten through to a second round of interviews before and so far the jobsites aren't telling me much.

    Thanks

If its a permanent role, I suspect they'll want to see who of the people they shortlisted would work best in the team, and the company. You'll probably be all on a par technically, so they'll be looking for commitment to the company and the job you'll be doing. Anyone else?

The only time I did a second interview, I was essentially asked the same questions, but with another interviewer in the room.

As said, just emphasis how much you want this job for like, ever, and how you'd be into the work.

Uusally the first interview is to assess wether you can do the job with the second interview being them trying to find out the type of person you are and wether you'd fit into the company mentality.

The second is usually ment to be tuffer. Usual format is the first weeds the men from the boys so to speak, it allows the employer to get the people with teh best CV's and see who is suitable. (anyone can write a good CV it's just a case of knowing how to sell yourself).
The second is to see who is the best / most suited, since everyone doing it will be of a high quality it is usuall tuffer.

best trick is to get a job spec and base questions on that and on the company itself, show them you've done some research into the company and are serious about teh job. The questions will either be more quick fire or deliberatly slow with gaps between your answers and the next question. this is so that you'll blurt something out which you don't mean to. If there is an awkard silence think hard about what you're gonna say before you deciede to fill it.

did my second interview last Thursday (thought I posted here to say that but obviously not). I thought it went quite well. Same kinda questions but they had a guy down from the Dublin office to sit in along with the previous two people.

The interview was alot more focused on the travelling part of the job and trying to find out if I was suited to the level of travelling the position requires. As I said, I think I did alright.

I'll know by tomorrow evening if indeed I did do alright. The nerves are killing me.

The worst thing I have found about the second interview is the waiting for feedback afterwards.
Especially if it is a job where you feel you are really suited and if you decide in your own mind that if offered you will take it. You just build yourself up and then the waiting can be excrutiating.

I have been lucky enough to be offered a job which I hope will be perfect for me. I have struggled to find one which I have both enjoyed and been comfortable with since 2002.

For me at least, the worst thing is doing an interview, then getting told by the interviewer, "I'll recommend your application to HR" only to never hear from the crowd again :(

    absofuckinlutely!

about 5k more per year than what I'm currently at and a van (which if nothing else will allow me to get my full cat B license and build up that vital NCB).

What I'm looking forward to now is heading into work and going out in a blaze of foul language and suggestive hand gestures.

    Congrats Rymus.

At the moment an increase in salary that big is always a bonus for a job which you will enjoy.
