    Hey,

I live in the city centre and after watching Sharapova's stunning display in the Wimbledon Lady's final I'm half keen on picking up a raquet and trying my hand at the sport.

Is there anywhere in Dublin good for beginners/lessons?

If you've got someone else to play with head into Trinity college. During the summer the courts are very quiet and usually nobody bothers to ask if you should be there or not. If they do, depending on your age, say that you're a postgrad and your ID card is in the lab.

    (Just spotted this now)
Check out the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council's website on www.dltc.net

You should be able to find a decent tennis club which is handy for you. Most clubs will cater for beginners and a lot have tennis coaches attatched to them and I'm sure they'll be able to supply you with information about them.

The prices for membership will vary greatly depending on where you go also. Some clubs may also seek nomination from one or two existing members also.

If you need any more info gimme a PM and I may be able to help out :D

Mount Pleasant tennis club in Ranelagh, c. 15 mins walk from the city centre, is open for membership at the moment - see http://www.mountpleasantltc.ie/membership.htm for more details.

There's an irish tennis group at http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/irishtennis/ - you could try posting there, though it's pretty quiet...
