    Alright lads,

Going for an interview with PC World next. Has anyone, or does anyone, work for them? I have a few questions...

What is the wage like? Is commission given on sales, and if so, what is it like?

Any other information would be helpful?

    That is all.

    Sorry about the off topic post but was going to apply there also;

When you applied did you specify where you wanted to work? ie PC repair/sales etc? or did they give you an option?

btw i think pay is relatively good. €10 an hour i think.

I worked in PC world repair when I was in college, pretty good company to work for actually. Pay was good, pretty ok place to work for, surprisingly.

I didnt apply for a specific area, just submitted a CV a few months ago. I would probably go for technical position over a sales position. Is the rate the same for both do you know?

I dont know, i'd imagine so.

I'd love to work in their technicial department though :)

Let me know how you get on if you can :)

I worked there 5 years ago but repair technicians generally earned a good bit more than sales people, although if you were a good salesman you could earn rafts of cash through commission iirc.

I wouldn't have fancied sales. Too much pressure, Saturdays and Christmas time in PC World is just horrible. At least in repairs you're away from the main store floor and it's pretty relaxed.

    Thanks lads.

Any insider information on how to do well in their interview? I'd really like to get this job. It sounds like a really good place to work, from the feedback I've been getting here. Is there any particular traits/talents/skills that they look for?

    Hmmm interesting!

Is there a PC world in Cork??

Wouldnt mind working there for a while just to get "experience".

I think it would beat working at a telesales gaff!

You would be surprised.. If you worked in telesales or customer care for a fairly big company that also based other departments in Ireland, they love promoting from within and they will generally really appreciate your knowledge of the customer facing aspects of the business...

Going from such a dept into an IT enviroment means you will have a different perspective than most people in the IT dept and will be able to contribute some fairly valuable input.

For me one is better in the long term while one is better in the short term.

you won't be able to get into their tech department by sending in a cv blind though, they only have 2/3 full time and 1 part time tech and they've been there since the place opened (bar 1 i think) and they're stitched up pretty tight (i worked with one of them previously)...... the commission is supposed to be good but you have to hit a target every month before you start earning any

tbh it's not that hard to make a sale in PC World and it's not difficult to meet your targets. If you saw the til totals at the end of the day - especially on a Saturday or around Christmas - your jaw would hit the floor.

Eth0, I'm not at all surprised, last weekend I was short of DVD-Rs and thought I'd see if I could buy a few "cheaply" in PC World considering they're 'stamping down on prices'. Pack of 25 DVD-R's were €75.00 .... pretty big markup when you can purchase them wholesale for as little as €9.00
