Was in work today(Im a stable groom) and was just finishing the day off by having to bring in one horse from the field. Now all I had to do is bring the horse in over the road for about half a mile.

Got to the field and started walking home no probs at all. encountered some traffic and the horse(young horse by that) was doing ok. So I get this tractor just coming across. I signal him to stop, well this is where all hell breaks loose, the f*cking b@stard just drove straight passed until my horse jumped around draggin me with her through a nice thorney ditch and now im in front off the tractor. Well finally the c*nt stops but for me its a little to late as I am being dragged along bearly being able to run cuz the horse is running through the grass which is a foot high and the ground is full of holes. Well about half a mile down the road another 2 cars coming against me now, well you think they's stop seeing a horse running towards them, well guess again, they dont so at this point I say f*ck it I dont wanna die and let go the cars stop an inch away from me and the drivers just stay sitting in the car revving the hell out of the engine so the horse wont go near his crappy f*cking 91 fiesta. Well guess what the revving of the engine upsets the horse and so the horse is off again, finally I get a little luck, one good samaritan who is out for a nice walk hears something behind her and decides to try and stop the horse in which she is succesfull.

The tractor driver in the mean time is still parked in the same spot and the 2 cars that nearly killed me drove on as if nothing happened. The driver of the tractor just sat there if it was my fault. I got his reg number but wonder what I can do with this.

Anyway I thanked the lady who stopped my horse(which is ok just a little stressed) and a driver who came just as the horse was stopped.

Once I got back to the tractor I f*cked your man out of it by naming him every possible name under the sun and he just ignored it. I nearly let go of the horse this time just to beat him 6 feet under. Well due to this c*nt I got 2 sprained ankles and a twisted knee.

Any advise on what to do with this SOB? Please comment.

I don't think anything can be done tbh. You asked him to stop. You have no authority over him, so he wasn't required to stop. If he had a bit of cop-on he would have stopped.

Ask your local Gardaí to see where you stand, if anywhere. They'll probably tell you it's tough shit though.

Then again, you have to give way to pedestrians and animals while driving don't you?

AFAIK the law changed some years back . The owner of the animal is now responsible for it . ( before if you hit a dog, cat, goat, donkey etc the driver was responsible) but not anymore .

Well I live on the Curragh :D Horses have right of way. Oh well if the Gardai say its tough shit then let it be but hell if im riding out and see him again I'll jump of and put him 6 feet under. Atleast the horses that we ride know their way home :) this poor thing didn't have a clue where she was going and was very paniced. If it wasn't for that I would have as KdjaC said
    ninjad his ass

Re read the rules of the road.

People you must stop to :
    1. Gardai
    2. people in chareg of animals.
    3. forget who the third one is?

That tractorman sounds like a wanker. ****'s sake, had it been a chihuahua you were leading...but it was a horse. She could've easily done you a lot of damage, he had no right to just drive on when he knew well she was frightened. She could've took off with you and done you a lot more damage.

She did take of with me.
Got dragged through the rough shoulder for bout half a mile then I had to let go and a lady who was walking stopped her by waving her arms through the air. Only had to let go cause another 2 drivers coming against me didn't stop and after I let go the 1 car just stopped about a foot in front of me.

**** the lot, except the lady. I cant thank her enough.

Together with the Gardai (Irish police force), School Traffic Wardens are the only officials in Ireland who have the authority to stop other vehicles on public roads.

The above from the Oasis.irlgov.ie website.

What about the customs people then?

As already mentioned, the Rules of the Road clearly state that you must obey a person in charge of animals. It's plain commonsense as a horse/animal has no understanding of the Rules of the Road. Furthermore, you actually have to give way to anything blocking a road or junction, no matter why they are there, in the right or in the wrong, otherwise you'd have open season on slow moving ppl, jaywalkers, badly positioned vehicles etc. Afterall you are obliged to avoid causing accidents by law. Sprained ankles should be accident enough. Aggressive revving is also not allowed even at ppl.

That only refers to officials and appears to omit Customs. The customs ppl can do a lot more than you'd think. You've got to remember that they work for the taxman not for dept of justice. They have lower requirements wrt search warrants (if needed at all) and can just about stop any vehicle or person anywhere, anytime. At least that's what the customs fella told my mother not so long ago after chasing her for a few miles just to check for importation docs on a UK car we had inherited.

It is quite clear cut according to law.

Within Road Traffic Act, General Bye-Laws, 1964, Section 30

    Driver's duty when passing animals
    30. A driver meeting or overtaking an animal on a road shall either reduce speed or halt the vehicle, if requested to do so (whether by signal or otherwise) by a person in charge of the animal.

Report the muck-savage to the police and make sure they note the injuries suffered by you.

Report the farmer. Failing that, spray-paint swastikas on his sheep. Or stop signs.

Raphael I know how easy it is to make napalm and damn I forgot about that option thank you for reminding me.

I'd like to thank you all for your comments aswell. Gave me some great ideas for revenge

There's the only sane answer. Giving some1 a bollockin is waste of air. Nail him with the polis: make a written complaint and get the name of the Guard who takes your statement. You'll feel a lot safer on that road the next time you're out.
