Metallica vs Megadeth

I was just wondering what metallica would be today if mustaine wasnt fired so decided to create this thread.. we wouldnt have 2 great bands today just 1.. although a lot of people look at metallica as having always been 1 step ahead of megadeth..better solos, etc.. Ive been listening to a lot of megadeth recently (rust in peace, countdown to extinction, youthanasia) and can safely say they are an excellent band and overall imo they had better songs than metallica + they didnt sell out.
    any opinions?

They did sell out - Cryptic Writings & Risk - but they saw the error of their ways and had redeemed themselves by the release of Rude Awakening. As for Metallica having better solos? Chris Poland and Marty Friedman are two of the finest guitarists every to play a note IMO (and Mustiane could really do great things when he felt like it). I love what Kirk did on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Metallica albums (Mustaine wrote the solos on Kill 'Em All) but just listen to Good Mourning/Black Friday or Tornado Of Souls and find anything Metallica did which topped them.

I don't think Metallica would've been half as good if they hadn't fired Mustaine. It was the fire lit by being fired by Metallica which drove Mustaine onto greatness. Buy yourself a copy of Peace Sells...

mustaine in metallica would never had worked anyway, he and james hetfield are both too violatile. it would have self destructed sooner or later.

the death of Cliff Burton isn't attributed enough to the demise of metallica, now if he was still in the band, who knows how much better Metallica would have been.

    megadeth easily!
mustaine is a genius, his rhythms are really good,i dont think they sold out,i do think risk sucked by cryptic writing was good imo, and then the world needs a hero was v good, typically megadeth stuff, and new albums should b good.
