    Okay;

    Cause I'm bored.
This is a thread where you suggest films you'd love to see made.

Yes you can suggest some pratchett novel you adored, but I'm hoping for more imaginative and crazier ideas. Such as "Shaft, in Alabama".

Heres one to get you going.

a Sequel to 28 days later, "28 days later meets Big Brother"

The plot, the housemates curious about the fact that Davina's last broadcast ended in screams and mayhem three days ago, and increasingly desperate that big brother has not answered their pleas for more cider and fags, break free of the house only to discover a terrifying virus has laid waste to London, and now the must escape the hoards of flesh eating zombies. 8 house mates in a terrifying world where the likelyhood of appearing on the cover of OK! magazine looks increasingly grim......
(It's really just the image of those annoying twats getting devoured by flesh eating zombies that cheers me up)

So now you have a go..........

By reading this sentence you forfeit all rights to your film idea to Mycroft

I would go see a max payne movie but meh i would prefear a movie based about KOTOR.

Those are game movies, hmm non game and non porno movies i want made.

How about a movie about some guy who goes into dublin on a friday night, some guys try to rob his fone so he kills all 14 of them and the streets of dublin run red with there blood. Then the rest of the movie can be about his trial and court we can watch the ****ed up irish legal system punish a man for killing 14 animals.

See you'd think it'd work but it wouldn't. For starts you'd never even remotely believe dialogue that hard boiled coming from any actor in a movie. "The only thing I could take seriously was him taking all this seriously". Plus the satisfaction from max payne comes from leaping through a door way in slow mo with the sound of a shotgun shell chambering as the screams of three mafia hoods ring in your ear.

oh and clockwork orange part 2

Can't really picture Mc Dowell reprising the role at his age, now can you?

The book has a final chapter which sort of ties up the narrative, Alex decides to settle down find a nice girl and raise some Droogs of his own, who'll grow up to become little psycho's just like him. Bless.
The last of the summer wine , the movie

I've summerise the plot for you, three old men, some shengians about one of not wanting to get a tooth pulled or something, and for no explanable reason they end up rolling down a steep hill in bathtub with wheels. The End.
Another ET Film , this time on E.Ts planet ...

One was cute, two hours of a planet full of that sqeeky weird voice would annoy the piss out of me.

On a serious note, I would like to see Issac Asimovs Foundation trilogy get the proper cinematic treatment. Hopefully by a fan/director along the lines of Peter Jackson. After the $$'s that LOTR has raked in, I would imagine hollywood execs would be more receptive to the idea of big budget sci fi/fantasy trilogies.

Then again...if its done like this, they need not bother.

I'd like to see more historical movies, if they're done well. I'd love to see something original, not a sequel or a remake, not based on a comic book or a cartoon. Kill Bill was destined to be a hit just because it was something different, why is it so difficult for other film-makers to realize the concept?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭echomadman

ill Bill was destined to be a hit just because it was something different,

different from what? Its basically a collection of bits of other movies/themes put together as QTs homage to various movies/genres he loves.
cant get more derivative than that.

a movie of the Metal Gear Solid games, mainly Sons of Liberty

also a movie where the world actually gets destroyed, they don't save it at the last minute, the world gets viciously ripped apart by some natural or super natural force and all the main characters can do is stand by and watch until they too are destroyed

Amtrak wars - just to see the trains - but they'd probably look like CGI'd land masters from damnation alley ..

Magician - given the full LOTR treatment.

The release of DUNE - they left hours of that out.
Putting the spider scene back into King Kong (original version)

re; world getting destroyed - it didn't in the tale of things to come (is there a blue version by now) but, The hitchhikers guide to the galaxe is being made in to a film (cringe) and the earth does get destroyed very early on.

I'd like to see more historical movies, if they're done well.

Might I recommend if your taste runs to foreign,

this , and this or perhaps even this or this

Finally never go down as a historical true film, but bloody great fun
    this fellow

Cyrano kicks ass. For the epic battle with the spainish the films production team, found in an agricultural museum 16th wheat, (it grew much taller then) and almost a year before the battle was shot, sowed a field with this wheat in order to make the scene look more authentic.

I'd actually like to see a remake of Minority Report. I have the script done already.

    MINORITY REPORT

    INT. BOARDROOM

Cruise sits at the top of a long oak desk. We can see he is intently poring over a detailed report.

    ONE HOUR LATER: ENTER TEALADY

She can see that cruise is busy and backs out before ever really coming into shot.

    ONE HOUR LATER

Cruise finishes his reading. He takes off his glasses and rubs his tired eyes. He closes over the portfolio, glad to be finished for the day, but is shocked at what he sees.

CRUISE: Oh no, I've been reading the Majority Report!

Cue credits over a still of Cruise's face.

I'd love to see a few films about Cú Chullain and Fionn McCul and the Fianna and the Red branch nights and stuff.

It could be on a kindof braveheart / lord of the rings / tripped out magic buzz with total legends swordfighting and evil witches etc. It would be savage. The stories are already there - some real good ones. Why has there NEVER been a film made from this stuff. Even the Jim Fitzpatrick tales (and art) is enough for a movie or 2.

Also - the Slaine comics (the horned god) could certainly provide some inspiration.

I'd love to see a film well made of any of Lee Childs Books,

Jack Reacher the hero of the books is an ex-military cop, who is a law unto himself as well as having a brilliant mind.

You can read the first chapter of most of the books online at www.leechild.com

    In Book Relase Order:
    Killing Floor
    Die Trying
    Tripwire
    The Visitor
    Echo Burning
    Without Fail
    Persuader
    The Enemy

An excerpt from the info on the first book,
Lee Child's electrifying debut novel, introducing Jack Reacher, a hero for our time; a man of action unafraid to take justice into his own hands; a man of keen and cunning intelligence. Within a span of three days, the sleepy town of Margrave, Georgia witnesses events that leave everyone stunned. An unidentified man is found beaten to death. The sheriff and his wife are found butchered to death. Then, a bank executive disappears from his home, leaving his keys on a table and his wife frozen with fear. Suspected is Jack Reacher, a drifter who happens to be an ex-military policeman, who must unravel the mystery before a team of killers make him the next victim.

different from what? Its basically a collection of bits of other movies/themes put together as QTs homage to various movies/genres he loves.

Despite the fact Kill Bill may have similar attributes from various genres Tarantino may like, that does not give credence for stating the movie is not different. It certainly was unlike any movie I have seen recently. If it is, in fact, a collection of themes and elements of movies, does that not make it unique? Just because a movie shares some similarities with other movies in existence does not make it hackneyed or trite if it is done well, as I feel it was. Since you seem to feel comfortable critiquing Tarantino's movies, how do you feel about Pulp Fiction? Was that too just derivative? Please, enlighten us all. :)

Might I recommend if your taste runs to foreign,

Thanks, I have seen three of those five and really enjoyed them. I'll have to check out the other two. I am a big fan of Gérard Depardieu. I've seen most of his movies.

this is one of my favourites; you might enjoy it.
It's hard to beat a talky costume drama based in history! :)

Seriously, it's incredible the effort that is spent on researching and preparing for these movies in order to make them as realistic as possible.

From IMDB re Danton : Robespierre is in serious need of some good PR after this film!

Yeah cause the whole reign of terror thang was just a misundestanding.

Speaking of foreign talkies or non talkies in this case, this is an amazing film every frame of this is just beautifully framed and shot.
I'd love to see a few films about Cú Chullain and Fionn McCul and the Fianna and the Red branch nights and stuff.

Now we're talking hell just pitch the villian of the Tain as Queen Maebh of "the friendly thighs"

I've met a few of the celtic battle reinactment society (sort of like US civil war reinactors only drunker, more and violent) and they'd be well up for it, the only hindrance is budget and a lack of acting talent on their parts.

But hell, with King Arthur out soonish, and swords n sandals based on the epics of Homer all the rage, might not be a bad time to dust off a script for one.

It would be great to see the heroes of Celtic Mythology on the big screen-- it's about time. Maybe Peter Jackson would be interested?
Raise the Red Lantern is another of my all- time favourites. (I have a lot of favourites).

This and this are well worth watching. (The first one had to be the inspiration for the movie Somersby.)

Ah La Reine Margot. See Hollywood don't really do, a really great bloodbath, do they?

I'd also like to see a film based on the murder of was it the Governer general in the late 1890s? By the invincibles (best name for a secret society ever!)

    And your obessesion with Depardieu?

    And your obessesion with Depardieu?

It just seems like an obsession. :)
He's such a good character actor and he's been in several good movies. He's believable in the roles he plays, partly, because he's not a pretty boy. (of course, maybe he's considered one in France?)
Until we began discussing these movies, I hadn't realized how many I'd seen. The French are meticulous about the details in their historical / historical fiction. It bothers me to watch a movie and notice something that's just glaringly wrong. They also don't mind showing warts and all.
The Invincibles--- what style, what confidence! Ah... whatever became of them?
I'd love to see a movie about the life of Lafayette. His life reads like outrageous fiction, it would make a great movie.

It's socialism in action. All french cinema is subisdies via a tax on cinema tickets, something like 50cent on each ticket directly finances french cinema. Which means french directors get chances to take risks, with budgets out of the reach of americans. Mind you thats not to say jean de flouer would have been made by 20century fox. "an ugly hunchback wants to set up a progressive farm in rural france, but is twarted by malicious greedy locals...."

If you're interested in Hitlers mindset in film try this
    you're welcome to it.

Though apparently a number of German filmakers are attempting at last to break the last taboo in German cinema and two films about Hitler are being made. I doubt they'll be from his vile perspective.

True, he's got Gerard beat out in the looks department. I've only seen two of his movies, and Queen of the Damned was so bad that it's probably kinder to forget it. (I read Queen of the Damned, the film- makers must have gotten their Ann Rice books confused.)
All french cinema is subisdies via a tax on cinema tickets, something like 50cent on each ticket directly finances french cinema.

I was not aware of this. It does explain a lot. This must be why there's not a lot of big budget historical type movies coming from Hollywood. American movies need to be profitable-- hence the formula movies that are churned out over and over ( the sure hit ?). Either that, or it's a bad movie meant to lose money as someone's tax write-off. When I'm watching a really bad movie, I often wonder which is the case : accidently bad or purposely bad? I have to wonder if they don't realize while filming, that it's really bad!

Something along the lines of this? Haven't seen it myself but from what I've heard it's at least worth a look. And apparently Spielberg's Amblin was interested early on, though Spielberg pulled the plug on the involvement.

a spectularly bad big budget hollywood movie

Now I'm intrigued. There have been so many. What went wrong? A bad script? Bad actors? Was an attempt made to "fix" it, or was it too immensely awful and out of control (like watching a train wreck)?
I'd love to see more small budget ( sometimes quirky) movies that rely on a good story rather than special effects.

This and this and two I really like. I find the second has an especially haunting quality.
