Sharp-GX30 First thought

    Hello Everybody,

Just taken delivery of a new Sharp GX-30 and I also decided that I did not fancy pently points so I bought a SE TBH-65 Bluetooth headset. The first thing I noticed after turning on the phone was the shire quality of the screen. I was using a samsung e700 and I thought the screen on that was amazing - this purely blows it away. You have to see the screen to believe it. I have used the new Nokia 7610 and the 6600 and this leaves all phones for dead.

Have not really had time to set up and test the phone but so far it all looks good. The quality of the camera is amazing and even beats the Nokia 7610. For a phone that does everything you would be really hard pushed to beat it.

Got it on a upgrade for €244 not to bad really. So for that money you are getting:

    1mp camera
    Bluetooth
    256,000 colour screen
    STN external colour screen
    Memory card
    Handsfree Kit

Not a bad package I am sure you will agree. If anybody has any questions I will do my best to ask but so far very good.

    Thanks,
    TCP/IP

Its basically the exact same size as the GX10 mate. Go for it quality phone. As an update I paired the SE Bluetooth headset no problem at all and the quality is wonderful.

I have not used the GX30 for about 4 months now so I cant remember whether the screen is so much better than that of the 7610. I do however remember myself being totally blown away by the quality of the screen.. Sharp are getting better and better with every generation and this all bodes wlll for the rumoured GX40 - fingers crossed!

I don't think it is overly quick.. They seem to be trying to bring Europe up to date with the Japanese markets...

This pretty much tells you where they will be tech wise in Europe by Christmas...

Vodafone K.K. Releases V602SH with World’s First Optical Zoom

New model compatible with Chaku-uta®, Movie Mask, Keitai Karaoke V-kara and more Tokyo, June 30, 2004—

Vodafone K.K. announced today that starting with the Kanto-Koshin region on July 2 it will offer the V602SH by Sharp, which features the world’s first* mobile embedded camera with an optical zoom function. Combined with its optical zoom capable high-specification 2.02 megapixel autofocus CCD camera, the V602SH approaches the ease-of-use of true digital cameras without compromising the size and functionality of current mobile handsets. To achieve this, the V602SH uses a ‘Swivel Style’ design that allows the LCD screen to be reversed 180 degrees. The V602SH also represents a new handset to be commercialized as part of Vodafone K.K.’s new handset design initiative, a process where Vodafone K.K. offers its own original handset style concepts to the market. The main theme of this design project was to provide a handset that not only focuses on exterior design, but also takes into consideration enhanced services, functionality and usability for new methods of use and lifestyles. The V602SH is the first* 2G handset in Japan capable of playing Chaku-uta® ringsongs and also supports a multitude of new features and services such as Movie Mask facial motion capture technology, Keitai Karaoke V-kara which enables customers enjoy karaoke by connecting to a TV, and 256K Appli Ver. 2 (Java™ applications) for high-speed mobile games with beautiful graphics. Vodafone K.K. will offer range of new content related to these services to coincide with the sale of the V602SH. The main features of the V602SH are as follows: - World’s first optical zoom - Swivel Style for taking pictures while handset is closed - Compatible with Chaku-uta®, Movie Mask, Keitai Karaoke V-kara, and 256K Appli Ver. 2 and more

What interests me most is how the likes of O2 are going to be able to compete unless they follow the same trend as Vodafone.

this was an interesting item on All About Symbian highlighting an article outlining that Sharp plan to use Symbian OS in future phones

if they can deliver devices with their skills in screen and camera tech running a decent OS like Symbian then that could really be something (as long as the operators don't meddle to inhibit the functionality)

It would be great if this was to happen.. I read somewhere recently that Vodafone are going their own route and developing a Java based OS in conjunction with some partners, I don't know whether they are going to try to persuade the likes of sharp to develop a handset for such an OS, use a different manufacturer or what...

But a decent Symbian UI with feature rich sharp handset would be great.

sounds like SavaJe which Voda, Orange and more recently T-Mobile have invested in...

plus on the hardware side there is also the newly formed Open Mobile Terminal Platform who want to specify handset features

a lot of positioning going on at the moment...

Was wondering what this phone is like for playing mp3s. Is it stereo or mono? Can they be transferred easily from a laptop using bluetooth. Does anybody know what it is like in comparsion to the nokia 6230 for these functions

  • Subscribers Posts: 3,703 ✭✭✭TCP/IP

Right first things first the supplied headset for MP3 is mono but you can buy a stereo one from sharp. You cannot transfer songs via bluetooth only via card reader. The mp3 player is much better than the 6230 imo. Hope that helps

hi, can you do anything apart from using a headset with the Bluetooth implementation on the phone?

the most up to date Bluetooth Qualification added the serial port profile, but haven't seen anyone comment if it has made it into handsets supplied by Vodafone just that they can only use headsets with it

    thanks,

At the moment you can use only headsets and bluetooth car kits I am afraid. But to be honest that is all you need imo

i'd reckon others could find a use for more profiles and capabilities like syncing, dial-up modem, file transfer... pretty basic capabilities for most Bluetooth handsets these days... the lack of bluetooth capabilities is one of the main reasons i'm not taking it up even though the screen and SD expansion are impressive

asking Sharp at CeBIT about its Bluetooth capabilities they only mentioned the headset giving the reason that they were only new implementing Bluetooth and adding more functions would delay its shipping... but they intended to add more later... the Serial Port being the first addition although looks like it hasn't made it into the handsets Voda is shipping
