why would anyone spend 30 euro on a PCI IDE controller card?, add 20 euro to that and get yourself a new motherboard with integrated IDE, or even better dump IDE and go serial ATA much faster

If I get new mobo i'll need to get new cpu, then new ram, plus my hard drives are IDE

did you run out of space for more IDE?, is 4 not enough?, or is one slot broken on your motherboard?

I'd go for the promise ulta 100
I had an extra controller in my old computer it was great for copying cd's on the fly or even between hdd's

    which one do you suggest?

I'd just get the 23 quid one. Most of these cards use similar chipsets anyway. You;re just paying extra for the name...

I have the Highpoint Rocket 133S at home. It does the job but initially I had problems installing the firmware and drivers for it.

However I'm sure they'll all do the job. Personally, I would go for a SATA controller for the speed increase, but if all you have are IDE drives, then go for it.

I agree, four is often not enough.

    My setup:
2 x 120 Gb Drives, each with an individual RAID controller channel

    1 x DVD-RW
    1 x CD-RW
    1 x DVD-ROM
    1 x ZIP100

Occasionally I have a 7th device (Hard Drive) in for file transfers.
