The Discworld Cartoons

Just wondering what you all thought of the Discworld cartoons from a couple of years ago?

I have Weird Sisters and Soul Music on DVD, think they're the only ones they made into cartoons.

I love Christopher Lee as Death. I love the Death of Rats.
Esmerelda is just perfect, as is Nanny Ogg.

    But...
I hate the fact that so many of the characters aren't what I saw them as in my head. I had CMOT Dibbler down as a fatter, older guy, sort of Rab C Nesbitt style.
And there was no way I saw the owner of the [Mended] Drum as being a camp Northern Irish guy.

CMOT Dibbler, I think, is described as being skinny - I never imagined him as fat anyway. As for the cartoons I saw tiny bits of them late at night but I don't remember much about them at all - not enough to say whether I liked them or not:dunno:. Seeing books on screen will always leave a bit of disappointment , your imagination will never be fully satisfied:ninja:

The cartoons were ok, but well; they were cartoons, and clearly the makers treated the material as such; the scripts I thought scrapped most of Pratchett's more... adult slant and humour for generic "slap and tickle" laughs, not to mention lame "interuppting you just as you're about to swear" moments, which sucks. The flow of the books was ruined and some scenes jarred. Plus the animation was rotten, shame on Cosgrove Hall.
If done right, Pratchett on the TV could be the next blackadder - black humour par excellance. Instead we got primetime whitewash.

    Yes it is.

Just wondered what people thought of it the actual cartoons, rather than what people thought of my having an opinion on them

So very true. I mean, you can have sophisticated humour in cartoons, the medium doesn't immediately call for the maturity level to reduce.

I really hated cartoon Susan in Soul Music, but loved her in the book. And the wizards were all way too...squeaky and annoying.

Another thing was having the accents out there.
You know, Imp = Welsh, Klatchians = some middle eastern race. I guess that sort of humour seems less intelligent when faced with it as well.

Though granted, whoever did the voice of my personal fav', Mustrum Ridcully (the Brown), was pretty much how I imagined his voice - shame about the rest of him.
Oh and I think they messed up Colon and Nobbs iirc, which of course is a hanging offence under new EU regulations :)
Damn you woman, you've angered up me' blood now with CG's mucking around with the discworld. :p One day Sam Vimes in all his angry glory will grace the TV screens

Well the Klatchians ARE middle eastern/arabian - reinforced by "jingo" - but hey, "it's a cartoon loike - lets wheel out all the national stereotypes", including gay irish pub owners (wtf?)

I never seen the cartoons, but i have a vague recollection of seeing about a second of wyrd sisters when i was about 8.....

I get most of my images for characters from the Discworld 2 PC game, i feel they are accurate representations of most characters. However, i dont think the wizards are very well done. They are just different from what i imagined them as. However Rincewind is really well drawn, just as i imagined him, with Eric Idle having his voice down to a tee.

Which is a better representation for those who have seen both Game and DVD?

Foul Ole Ron was reasonably well done in the game. But it's far more horrifying to read about him in the books and leave it to your imagination...
