    I'm not sure if its exactly the same thing; but before one of my friends complained that the sound on her PC would fail after a few hours usage; only a reboot would fix it. I simply updated the sound drivers on her machine and that solved the problem. :)

    It was a Dell build. If sound driver updating doesn't work the next thing i would do is check out the motherboard.

    just to prove that it's not something like realplayer cacheing and also tying up your sound card can you play a cd for an hour , see if the cd sound stops after 10-15 mins,

    This will aid your diagnosis , and it may not hurt t reinstall the sound driver as any player should not totally hog the sound card .

    What about when you play a normal cd/dvd in the pc? you could just have a crappy connection to net
    Run - DXDiag aswell check and see what it says-
    Check the device manager when you loose the sound

    at the sound on her PC would fail after a few hours usage;
    I get that the odd time or something similar. I can no longer play .mp3's or .wav files (ie windows stuff) but i can still hear .midi sound files (ie doom music :D ).

    Only happens when i hav e .midi files in my playlist tho so its obviously something to do with that.

    A simple log off/on works for me and is usually fine. Much quicker than a reboot :) (not a solution but a slight time saver)
