Im new to this torrent thing, i downloaded a client for it, clicked on a torrent and it started, im getting very slow speeds though between 1-5 kb/s on broadband, this goes on for about 10 mb until i cancel the download as its taking so long. I tried a few different torrents but its always the same. Am i doing anything wrong?

    Thanks

    you either have -

    a) a router to connected to the internet- azureus is the best torrent client. go to its help pages and look up what ports to forward to your pc from your router. your router is blocking the ports

or b) you're running some software firewall like Zone alarm. This will probably slow things down by a factor of 10. Delete it and find an alternative.

ok thanks, i can get to the port forwarding page now. Say i want to forward ports 6881-6889 or ports 21-30, i put them in on that page right? and then i put those same ports in in my bittorrent client? and change my ip in my bittorrent client to my own ip address?

sorry if that makes no sense but i dont have a clue!

    Thanks

torrents always start off slow, your best using a p2p like 'ares' - brilliant..

theres too many people leeching and not enough seeds - which is understandable, because your cap goes so quickly with the amount you upload!

so when ppl get the the file they're after they quit

yeah give yourself a static ip and have your router port forward the bittorrent ports to your client ip
