Dangerous Duty-Free Shopping

    Hello,

This is just an observation I made the other day when I was in Dublin Airport's Duty-Free. When I noticed what they where selling, the usuals such as watches, jewelry, and other such gifts.

But they where also selling Pens, Fountain pens (Which are sharp), Wine bottles (Sharp when broken), and other such stuff.

What I am trying to get to is... If you buy something in the duty-free, you can bring it on to the plane, without been scanned. The shops where selling fountain pens in the area after the luggage has been checked (duty-free), So you whould have to bring it on to the plane, there nowhere elso to put it.

Isn't a sharp item (Pen or Broken Glass Bottle) not a weapon? All I want to know is do they check for that sort of stuff?, Because thats kinda dodgy.

Does anyone know anything about that?

    Thanks

You shouldn't have any problems... anything can be used as a weapon, including fountain pens, wine bottles (which are also for sale on board the aircraft), seat covers 9handy for strangling methinks), kettles of boiling water (again, on board), you get the idea. If they sell the stuff in the duty free, then you should be ok with it, as long as you're "discreet", ie waving stuff about making stabbing actions, etc.

Yeah, those things are fine to bring on board. You can still get randomly searched before you board the plane, but those items are considered normal to find in a bag and won't be confiscated.

I mean, shoelaces can be used as a weapon, as well as the plastic cutlery they give you on board. Can't ban everything.
