DVD Burning @4X

    I have a dell 8300 with a nec 2100-ad burner. It's an 8 Speed burner but it will only burn at 2.5X speed. I burn using dvdshrink, dvddecrypter & Nero. The media is 4X.

    Am I missing any settings/extras ??

    What discs are you using ?
    Bulkpaq (4x) DVD+R will only burn at 2.5x on a NEC2500 or older NEC burner.

    Try flashing the firmware to a newer version.
    This may solve the prob.

    go to the Nec site, look for the latest firmware available to download, and then just run the .exe file. Then reboot.

    Go to this page http://tdb.rpc1.org/
    Scroll down to the NEC ND-2100A section
    See where it says :2100A to 2500A, Allows burning of -R media. Supplied as a binary. This is the 2500A 1.06 firmware patched to work on a 2100A, and includes RPC1 and Rip Lock patch.
    Download this file and run it in DOS.
    This will convert your burner to a 2500A meaning it will be able to burn +R and -R discs.

    I have to run the program in DOS (command prompt wont do).

    Can you restart windows XP in DOS ?

    Use a boot disk or CD.

    alternatively u should be able to hit f8 when the white progress bar is being displayed at boot up. there should be a menu and you should be able to choose boot to command prompt.

    At least you can in other Windows Os's

    Not in windows XP. I also don't have a floppy drive.

    do dell ship with a system cd?

    usually systems have a system cd which you can use to boot into DOS

    Nope sorry. It just wants to reinstall/repare windows xp. no mention of boot cd

    Ok, just to let you know that I successfully flashed my dvdburner. I can now burn +RW & -RW at 4 X.

    I didnt have to go into DOS and was sent a windows flasher by "The Dangerous Brothers". A very, very helpful bunch of people. If anyone wants the file pm me. It's turns your nec 2100ad into a nec 2500ad
