    just a small few questions.

    1. what's the best bluetooth dongle here
    2. how simply is it to set up?
    3. is it easy to make ringtones from midi files? (i got a load of FF7 stuff i'd like as tones)
    4. i'm buying off meteor, can i change to my 086 number and still keep the 80 euros credit or what ever ammount they give you?
    5. i might be wrong on this but i heard some1 had doom running on this phone is it possible?

i think that's all the questions for now.

i want to buy the dongle on that site because i'm ordering stuff from them fairly soon.

get a bluetooth access point if you can from komplett, it's a balls to get 6600 to use your internet via a usb stick

[edit] Yah I have doom running on my phone, I'll upload the files needed [/edit]

TDK would be the best, Belkin would be ok too... but the model on that site is old and has been discontinued and only has older software drivers available for it... the two MSI ones have the latest drivers available on their Support Site so you should be ok to go with one of them... as for which one it doesn't matter too much as the handset won't offer the long range but maybe go with the 200m one in case you get any other devices that can take full advantage of the range (both devices would have to support the same long range)...

if you are trying to get the 6600 working with the PC Suite and your PC to install apps, sync data, backup etc. over Bluetooth then you *have* to use a USB adapter, get one that you can use up-to-date Widcomm Bluetooth software (check the model number and if the vendor's support site provides downloadable updates for it) - it's not too bad to set up but if you get stuck ask for help :)

access points are not supported natively on Series 60 handsets as a Bluetooth Networking profile isn't provided, they are usually more expensive and need the support of the manufacturer, Bluegiga being the only one I've come across to date (some people posted it works with certain RedM APs too) - Belkin AP I use wasn't interested though...

whow i never knew there was so much to it.

i just thought i needed that bluetooth dongle and the phone would automatically appear on the computer and i could start loading stuff on to it.

do i need to use the pc suite (does this come with the phone) to transfer midi (ringtones) files over?

    jay-sus i'm confused

Cr3m0 im in the same position as you, i got the phone today (birthday pressie w00t). I was wondering if it would be easier to just use a memory card reader/writer, you know the 6 in one thing to transfer files. Anyone thin this is a good idea, or am I missing something here, the card reader seemed a much easier option.

weemcd my fourth question was about the credit on meteor i asked could i still have the credit if i wanted to stay with my 086 number.

    that's what he was answering.

does any1 have this phone and use a bluetooth usb stick to transfer files over?

please i'd love a reply as i'm thinking of buying this phone on friday.

I've a bluetooth stick, (after a bit of fiddling) I can install apps, backup my phone, change my connection settings, transfer files on and off my phone, sync contacts via pc suite that comes with the phone.

ahh it's beginning to make more sense now, so if i buy that MSI bluetooth stick i can install, synch and transfer app's and info from the phone to pc and vice versa using nokia's PC suite that comes with the phone.

what kind of fiddling did you have to do?

:) was only trying to highlight that an Access Point isn't what you should be looking for, but rather a Bluetooth USB Dongle / Adapter (Stick)

you can use a Bluetooth connection with the provided Nokia PC Suite to sync information, install apps and transfer files etc. with the handset check the details are here...

i put a 'How To' tutorial together a while ago to help people get the Widcomm Bluetooth software, Nokia PC Suite and a Series 60 handset working together, you can check it out here [link] if you want

you can also just send items to the phone over Bluetooth directly by using file transfer. you would right click on the file and Send To, Bluetooth and choose the handset - then you deal with them in the Inbox (e.g. save images / install the app)

do i need meteors GPRS details? if so where can i get them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

I have the phone from meteor and a Belkin bluetooth USB. Got it in Harvey norman but its in Argos for €45 last i saw.. you can get cheaper ones though.
Anyway did you get it on Bill or pre-pay? I have pre-pay and you cant get GPRS or wap on this service yet. Only found that out the other day when i was trying to figure out why it would not work even with the right settings.

check out http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/ for all the info you need about this phone and what you can do with it.. also might find free ware themes, wallpapers etc

i'm on pre-pay. so you can't get GPRS on that atm. will it ever be released? or is it just a kick in the theeth for any1 on pre-pay?

it's not that i'd use it much it's just i'd love to have the features working right

is it that they haven't released WAP 2.0 on Pre-Pay?

i've been using GPRS WAP and MMS on Meteor Pre-Pay with a couple of handsets since before the new year, although not with a 6600... and as yet can't get ISP service on Pre-Pay...

    any1?

hi, did you try the how-to steps mentioned in this post on the first page of this thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

yup i followed that guide with a fine tooth comb. i get to the last picture on that page on my computer but it says that the phone is not connected to the COM port.

i'm getting sick of this already i'm gonna have a shot at it in the morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,027 ✭✭✭flywheel

ok, try with not setting Bluetooth on your phone to Hidden (i.e.Shown to All) and try again, also make sure the correct COM Port is selected, and don't delay dismissing any Bluetooth connection error messages if they appear (otherwise it can timeout)

make sure no other app may be using the Bluetooth COM port, like MS ActiveSync or Palm HotSync if you are using another device to connect to the PC over Bluetooth

still stuck, try an alternative approach and select all the Bluetooth COM ports in the mRouter Application and try again if successful then backtrack and unselected one at a time...

it was tested with a 6600 and the initial PC Suite so may need to look at it again when I have the chance to see if something has changed in the mean time...

i'm at my mates now for a lan so i won't be able to try this until monday as i left my bluetooth dongle at home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

tried setting my phone's visability to "shown to all"

    still nothing.

tried uninstalling completely and install the latest version of willcomm drivers v1.4.2 and installing the latest version of PC suite from nokia's website.

    still nothing.

still stuck, try an alternative approach and select all the Bluetooth COM ports in the mRouter Application and try again if successful then backtrack and unselected one at a time...

    didn't work
make sure no other app may be using the Bluetooth COM port, like MS ActiveSync or Palm HotSync if you are using another device to connect to the PC over Bluetooth

only thing that's blueetooth near my pc is my phone and usb dongle.

i've never used bluetooth before on my pc and the way this is going i don't intend to purchase bluetooth products in the future
