I've been doing alot of digital art recently and some of the art is quite good and I feel that there would be a demand for such work if framed etc.

Does anyone know what the demand is like for a spot on the open air exibition on St. Stephens green and Merrion Sq. at the weekends ?

Also I noticed it's nearly all done by hand ie. no digital prints. Would digital art qualify me to sell there ?

    Answers/Suggestions much appreciated

I remember speaking with one of the artists there a while back and as far as I remember it can't be digital but best thing to do is visit Merrion sq on Sunday and have a chat.

ah well of course in hindsight, the first thing you have to find out is does digital art(art for the sake of art) sell (well)? in the realworld or online.

    many questions

do you know? done any research?

know of any amateur _digital_ art groups in the real world? do there need to be?

there loads of painting groups, a number of photo groups...

you have orgs like the artscouncil and the sculptors society and in sure they laging behind in recogniseing the digital world and they certainly do little for amateur artists

the only one i ever found although is more about multimedia then 2d art is datagroup http://www.coin-operated.com

they have meetings every two weeks in the stags head showing work to a pub full of interesting people (on hold for the summer) it came out of the people that organised the darklight festival and out of mit ireland and the digital hub

    tis very good...

was asking about it an another mailing list

eringobrath do you have any examples of art you willing to show couldn't find any on your profile site

    anyone ever tried digital painting?

    from a merrion square painter

A couple of points: you need to be licensed to sell on Merrion Square.
Technically, you're licensed to sell original paintings and drawings - digital images would fall into the category of prints and so should not be exhibited in the venue.
However, it depends on how you approach it. I incorporate digital images into my paintings; but there is still a painting element in the artwork. So while they are multimedia works, they still involve painting.

    Chewy

    Thanks for the feedback mate

I've a pieces I'm working on at the moment. When I finish one I'll pass it onto you and see what you think, feedback would be much appreciated.

I'm basing my work on photo's taken with my digital camera of buildings. I use photoshop to vector (kind of cartoon look) some of the image and leave the remainder untouched. It may sound a bit strange but with a bit of effort I feel it would look quite classy and unique when framed.

Can I have a look at some of your work ?

    Very interested
