Laptop trouble

    Alright all,

My friend in work brought in her laptop complaining of trouble with the battery. The thing won't turn on if it isn't plugged in which is strange and when you turn it off to charge, the battery light just keeps flashing orange. It's a compaq presario 700, about two years old. Tech support seems to be fairly sparse and I've yet to find an concrete info on the web relating to the problem. Any advice would be really welcome.

    Cheers,

    Tony

ehm, the battery is dead :dunno: its not entirely uncommon for laptop batteries to die after two years, although I have no experience with the Presario kind....

If the warranty is gone, you are probably looking at buying a new battery..

What price range are we looking at here?

100 Euro plus by the looks of it....

Of course, just to be certain, you should try and get your hands on another 700 series presario and swap batteries, then you will know for sure what is wrong.

On a somewhat different topic ........
"Beware imitations that only give you black and white" says the svideo.com website in relation to their Pro S-Video + Audio Adapter. Yet when I got it, it gives me a black and white picture!! (laptop to TV).
Anyone else have this kind of trouble? Any tips?
    Thanks.

Your laptop may be outputting in the wrong format. Make sure its set to output in PAL-I format.

Thanks for quick reply, Stephen. You were spot on, though it took me a long time to find how to do it. Got it at last under selecting correct region after clicking a button I didn't realise could be clicked.
I have another problem now. I tried to play a DVD movie on my laptop and output the picture to the TV. The window and logo of the player (InterVideo WinDVD 4) came up ok but the movie picture doesn't show at all, just a blank screen.
    Any ideas on this one?
    Thanks.

some of those players give the option to play on the tv only or the monitor only or both the tv and monitor.

most likley software settings found either in the dvd player software or in the grafics cards settings.
