1st choice: NUIG Celtic Studies 405
    2nd choice: DCU Fiontar 325
    3rd choice: UCD Arts 375
4th choice: St. Pats Humanities Degree 405

Probably get 1st or 2nd though. Changed my mind about Fiontar because you can do your third language abinto [from the start]. So it got bumped up in the options. It's a toss up between Celtic studies and Business with Irish. Lets see how the points go.

Fiontar is the irish for entreprenur. Basically a buisness course through Irish with the aim of working in Europe. Looks like a great course. Quite concentrated because so few apply for it. Should be good if I don't get my first choice.

Not trying to be a grammar nazi or anything, but why is it obvious that you're not going to use proper spelling on a message board?

I do not like having to read or interpret as the case may be, the way you write. Bad spelling and grammer can be excused to a certain degree, but txt tlk is not cool. It's not that I'm arrogant, I just like not having to put loads of effort into reading a post.

It is not a silly immature comment to ask for you to make a bit more effort, on our behalf, the people that have to read your posts. Because we certainly have to put effort into understanding yours.

Sorry, it just really ticks me off to see how spelling and grammar have gone to the dogs on here. I blame sms! =)

Oh yeah, just re: your course choice, I know a few people who did sound engineering and there's almost no work in it in Ireland, one of my mates last job was doing sound engineering for a country musician touring around the UK - and yes, he is good and well qualified. Cool thing to study, so long as you're ok with having to leave the country to find work.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 142 ✭✭2+2=5

ye i plan on leaving the country as soon as i can

I'd really love to do that! I saw it in the prospectus. Looked great. You can do it in irish too. But then, I don't have basic sign language so its no good to me. But looks like a great course. G'luck indeed!

I was thinking about ding something similar (not skiing, but working abroad), since I don't really know what I want to do. Haven't bothered to sort anything out though, so I'm probably on my way into a college course I may despise.

Isn't there 2, max? NUIG and GMIT? Or is Galway off the list already?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

No no, Galway is still first choice. Something about a private college. Well that's what I heard.

Still though, TWO really BIG colleges will suffice.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭subway_ie

There are loads of "private colleges"... but they're just secondary schools that call themselves colleges. Dunno if you could call GMIT big... anyway, have you ever seen their campus? It's practically in Oranmore. You're right about it being a fun town though... just stay away from CPs when you get here.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

If I knew what they were I'd take your advice on board no problems! ;)

    Woop for Galway!!

CP's is a cattle mart/"club". And an overpriced one at that. You'll inevitably be drawn there at some point... but try to resist the urge.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

Unless they have a good band and/or good music on, and can serve me a pint of miller, I won't be there.

    Woop. I'm all happy. :D

    Yeay for college

There are private colleges as well. Protobelo college dublin springs to mind, as well as the NCI (which was private and is now public) Mostly business courses

Cuba all the way then... we'll have to try to get you off of those pints of Miller though. Euch.

Well yeah... but they're in Dublin. I'm fairly sure there are none in Galway city... maybe there's one, but I've never heard of it.

In fairness none of them are that large, and they don't do great business. Theres afew more around the place and I'm sure galway would have some.

i ntoiced you mentioned Cuba, as in the club on capel st dublin?

Nope - it's the one on Eyre Square in Galway, it's owned by one of the big groups. I don't know if "trendy" is the word, but it's a bit more diverse than your average cattle-mart disco. The website's here.

In fairness, all the CAO handbook gives you is a list of course titles and codes. Maybe he can't read the college prospectus - but even they're vague and not very informative.

    Chemical Engineering in UCD.
I just want lots of money. All I need is a great idea that's never been done before and Im set. Any suggestions?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 56 ✭✭Envy

Didn't do too great in the LC, so my first two choices are gone.

It looks like I'll be doing my third choice, Arts in U.C.D. I still have to decide on my subjects. Hmm.

    Dublin should be fun, though.
