I have a slight problem with my LCD monitor.
I installed a new graphics card today and installed the latest drivers.
However the writing on webpages/word docs is blurry .
Anyone have an idea as to the problem ?

Are you using RGB or DVI?

Are you using the monitor's native resolution?

I'm using a VGA connection as I did with the old graphics card.
I am using the same settings before,1280*1024 on a 17 inch tft.
    32 bit colour.
I am tinkering around with the contrast and brightness settings but the blurring is still there.

If you take a screenshot, is the blurring still there? (You should look at the screenshot on another monitor)

Might help narrow down the cause.

just a bit of bluring on the red, possibly due to the image quality...

How do I fix it ?

If the monitor is still under warrenty, I would bring it back to whereever you got it? If it was a CRT then you could mess around with the settings, but LCDs generally don't have these settings, they should work straight out of the box.

Have you installed drivers for the monitor?

Do you have the refresh rate set to 60Hz?

    Have you tried changing resolution?

That screenshot looks fine to me :D - sorry I couldn't resist.

Try and beg/borrow (not steal) a few other VGA cables and see if they work any better. I have a 17" CRT here, and the cable that came with it was a bit faulty - one of the pins was split. It was still usable but if the cable moved the screen colours would go mad. So I bought a new (cheap) VGA cable, and it exhibited the same problems you mentioned - blurry screen. One of my other 17" died, I just used that cable - and that solved my problems.

Not saying you current cable is actually faulty, but just might not be good enough for your video card/lcd pair.

I have had this LCD connected to my old graphics card for 2 years and it has worked perfectly.
The problem materialised when I changed my graphics card so I think it is fair to assume the monitor and cables are fine.
I have installed drivers for the monitor and I have the refrsh rate set at 75hz.
I have messed with all the settings but the problem is still there.
Graphics card may be faulty ?

Ah well you see there's the catch. The new card might not put out as strong a signal as the old one, so even though the cable is fine in the old card/monitor combo, it just might not be good enough in the new card/monitor combo.

Yes that could be the problem allright.
Perhaps I should get a DVI cable instead.
They are hard to get though.

I added an extra piece of cabling onto the VGA cable and the picture deteriorated .
Obviously the problem is with the cable.
A pity as the picture I had with the previous card was perfect.

you'd best buy a DVI cable, I think. It does make a drastic improvement.

And see if you have 'cleartype' enabled. That smooths the edges of screen fonts and may not be to your taste. (under Display Settings->Appearance->Effects)

    Cleartype wasnt enabled .
    Looks brutal with it enabled.
It really must be the cable as both the previous and existing card are NVidia so they share the same drivers
and I have the same LCD settings .
Perfect with the MX460 ,blurry with the 4800SE.
Strange as the 4800SE is a better card.

    What drivers are you using?
Have you tried turning off AA, or switching between quality/performance settings?

I have the latest Nvidia drivers 56.72
    Anti aliasing is off.
    Quality setting.
    Games seem fine .
Its just text that is blurry.
I also tinkered with an app called clear type but to no avail.
