Great concert, wasn't it. Didn't seem like they'd play whiskey, but they did.
Thought Lostprophets were good, though I'd say most people would disagree. Don't like slipknot, but I thought they put on a good show.

did metallica ritually sacrifice 'the crab' bassist of thiers? Then all die horribly when lars' ego swelled to gargantuan proportions causing his drum riser to topple over and crush the remaining memebers to death? Cause thats what id call a good metallica gig. At least id pay to see that.
Im sorry im just annoyed with seeing all these fucking clones walking around town all day in thier metallica T's, not realising that metallica are now the ultimate symbol of corporate cock suckage, and by supporting such a band, are themselves being fished in, paying 60 euro a ticket so lars can buy his diamond shoes and produce more horrible, godawful, piss poor, fuck bollocks albums like stanger, all the while pissing on the memory of metallica when they were a good band and roping in more wee little kiddie winkies by getting hip new cool support bands like lostprophets, cause yeah man! Theyre so hip and with it and by comparison make metallica look hip and with it. WAKE UP. METALLICA ARE THE ULTIMATE IN CORPORATE COCK SUCKING SELL OUT SOULLESS FUCKSTICKS. Its a fuccking shame they all werent killed in that bus crash, at least then they wouldve went out before they could sell out.

great band, great show, great night

No but I soon will be !!!

Went to see them last year and they sucked big big big time. They play the exact same set-list at every gig, and say the same things at the same time of each gig.

Did anyone ever see the Spinal Tap episode of the Simpsons?

    "Good evening... Springfield"

    Sellouts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭krattapopov

i went with a guy who was at the gig last year, said this year was much better.... had to add that :)

They play the exact same set-list at every gig

erm...take it you havent seen the setlists from the last 6 months worth of gigs then........

Been to see them every time since 92.. and been to the UK a few times aswell. I have to say tonight was a great show.. if that makes me a sheep ..meh like I care

I got in for free :D and it wasn't that great.

Damn, ye don't waste time reviewing a gig, I'm only in the door from it.

I missed Lost Prophets and most of Slipknot because of traffic so I can't really comment on them.

All in all I think it was a good gig, not their best but a good one nonetheless. I've given up on their albums and thought the new songs were the weakest part of their set. They're alright, but not good Metallica songs.

The highlight for me had to be hearing Blackened and Master of Puppets blasting out over the speakers. They played for over 2 hours as well so there was a lot of classics to be heard.

    Overall I'd give it a 7/10.

So what if they're sell outs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 293 ✭✭Buck Owens

I though it was an amzing show. Better than last year:D all 2+ hours of it. I agree with Funky Penguin,so what if they're sell outs, they seem to know what they're fans what to hear live only 2 songs of St.anger. They could just tour for the rest of their careers and people would keep seeing them.

Slipknot were enteraining but the sound was siht for them. I wish I could have being up the front for Spit it out and the Jump the Fcuk up part, felt sorry for mick just playing the same riff over and over again so corey was trying to set it up,missed lostprofets, sorta feel sorry for them after Ozzfest and the recepition they got there

Didnt bother goign to see the two supporting acts so we stayed drinking. Was a very enjoyable day out. Pretty happy withthe selection of songs they played. Fade to black was great to hear as always. Seemed to be a much easier going atmosphear compared to last year. Maybe it was due to it not being as full?

Had a great time there with me mates as we managed not to loose one another as always. Few drinks, some good songs. An enjoyable day out.

*edit* anyone have an idea of the exact setlist that was played.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,499 ✭✭✭IamMetaldave

I thought Lostprophets were amazing!! What a band... I didnt see the dickheads that threw ****, If I did I would have thrown a bottle in their face! What a pile of **** doin that to a band... but anyways, Ive seen Metallica play better before, Slipknot... average..

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    King Nothing
    Wherever I May Roam
    St. Anger
    Creeping Death
    Battery
    No Leaf Clover
    Nothing Else Matters
    Master of Puppets
    One
    Enter Sandman
    Whiskey In The Jar
    Seek And Destroy

Good gig, got there about 6pm and saw about 40mins of slipknot they are a crazy bunch of mofo's :D first time to see them. My second time to see metallica last time i saw them was in '93 (..was it '93?) anyway I enjoyed it, good atmosphere and a nice couple of pints €5 a pint was pricey enough. But overall it was worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

I thought it was much better than last year (not that last year's gig was bad) - and the setlist was good too.
I was surprised to hear Holier Than Thou - i dont think i've ever heard/seen them play that one live.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭andrew163

absolutly amazing concert. started to lose interest in metallica for a while there but now i worship them again as music-gods...

    again again..again again...

got to see some of my best friends from belfast who i almost never see there too ...which made the whole thing even better :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

I thought Metallica were excellent. Slipknot were the same as when I saw the in Leeds....lost. The sound was terrible for them IMO. Really like their ST album, but they just can't do it live :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 sepia

only reason the sound was lost for slipknot is because it was outdoor and they can't play louder than the main act(I've noticed this before). The volume for metallica went up as soon as they came on. Then again I bet as soon as you hear them indoors it'd be a different story.
i loved it, really enjoyed it. thats what its all about in the end isn't?

Just to show there's nowt queer as folk...

I thought it was poor compared to last year. The sound was awful for long periods of the show, and I thought the band looked tired.

I can forgive the set "banter", its understandable when you're playing a choreographed show like that, but you can't forgive what I though was lazy playing.

Left for the start of the encore, didn't see the point of hanging round for the cliche of Whiskey...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭dimerocks

that gig ****en ruled, far better than last partially because lostprophets were very very funny, and because slipknot were great, impressed me enough to take back everything i ever said bad about them.metallica did a great show, ****ing awesome.
i think they have earned the right to sell-out all they want, it doesnt change the fact that they made brilliant music andplay it well, put on a good show.
the chilis are the ultimate sellouts and i will forever wonder how they are so popular being such a limited bad monotonous band.and they keep coming back here because they know stupid ****ers who are casual music liteners will go and see them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭c0rk3r

good gig. didnt like lost prophets but they were good enough to play through the critisism of the crowd. All those fu*kers throwing bottles really piss me off.

Slipknot where good , not great , but put on a good live show. I liked when sid took of the plain mask to reveal the skeletal mask and at the end of Spit it Out when everyone sat down then jumped up , arrogent people that didnt annoyed me.

Metallica where great , enjoyed when they played some of the lesser known songs , the kids in the pit with their parents didnt know what was going on. Loved Robs solo , excellent bassist. particulary liked when it broke into orion. hated Hammits useless solo's (wish he would stop hiding behind a wah pedal).

in all a good gig, specially when i caught 2 of robs plecs (wonders why he has them since he plays with his hands, must just be for show)

thank god I missied the lost prophets and just came in time for the start slipknot. it was great gig but I have massive hangover from drink....

Great gig. Wasn't too pushed on going seeing as I saw them last year but really glad I did now.

How amazing were Fade to Black and No Leaf Clover!?

I thought Lostprophets were amazing!! What a band... I didnt see the dickheads that threw ****, If I did I would have thrown a bottle in their face! What a pile of **** doin that to a band... but anyways

i nearly did, i felt their performance was so much better but i couldnt here the vocals in the pit well at all.
If the sound was good then id reckon it would have been great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

Thatb concert was miles better than last year(althouh i loved the darkness).

Got there at about 10 and had to hop the gates to get in and get my pit pass:D then we left and smoked a few in the park. me and mates went in at about half 3 and sat in the pit. did anyone see that guy tryingto run in and the security running after him? they tripped him. was brilliant.

Lost prophets: they were really goood. i heard they were **** live from a friend but they were brilliant. they didnt deserve that abuse, at least it wasnt as bad as linkin park's abuse they got. the band got a kick as mosh goin for shinobi vs dragon ninja.

Slipknot: the pit was fairly packed for them. I was expecting a really good show but they kinda were a dissappointment, they didnt hav long enough and they didnt really play the best choice of songs. the best bit by far was when they got everyone to sit. everyone in the pit did except the people on the barriers. then once he said 'jump the f*uck up!' the whole pit was a proper pit. that was the only time ive seen an entire pit going mental. it was brilliant

Metallica: they were miles better than last year. the sound was perfect from the back right hand side of the pit. the set list was miles better than last years. blackened was a brilliant opener. hearing no leaf clover and fade to black was amazing. one of the best bits i thought was moving from the quiet nothing else matters into master of puppets. sounded brilliant. whiskey in the jar kicked so much ass.

all in all a good gig. the only dissappointment for me was slipknots sound and the setlist. they were still good though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭derrylahan

i thought the gig was great first time seeing slipknot. thought they were good, only thing was the sound was crap, i could barely hear micks guitar.

best part for me was during lost prophets when me and the drummer of my band 'exp' started shouting EXP and a few people joined in untill my bands rivals 'heretic' started shouting heretic and they lifted me up and sent me crowd surfing which i enjoyed.

does anyone remember the exact set list for slipknot?
and does anyone have pics or sound of the concert?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

i dont really know slipknot too well but I KNOW they played the following

    Surfacing
    wait and bleed
    spit it out
    disasterpiece
    heretic anthem
    duality
    the blister exists

they could have played people = s*hit but im not too sure what that goes like. and i think they started with (sic) cause thy had the 742617000027 thing playing as they came out on stage.

couldnt go :( lack of money, am soo pissed that i couldnt cause ppl sayin it was better than last year which kiked ass, did they say theyl b coming back at all ?????????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 68 ✭✭9lives

I too thought it was better than last year. I enjoyed hearing 'King Nothing' which is one of the few decent songs on "Load". Also got a kick out of "Whiskey..." and the whole anticipation that built leading up to it.

Didn't think much of the sound, and I didn't think Kirk was mixed high enough at all.

Sell outs they may be, and indeed bar "Metallica", I don't rate any of their albums since "MoP" above average. But they're a cracking live band and I'd probably go see them again. I'd prefer to see a more intimate gig though - The Ambassador would be great!

Missed Lostprophets - didn't have the same appeal for me as The Darkness last year - and caught most of Slipknot's set. Not my type of thing but a bit of fun.

Bad part? Morons moshing around us as far back as the sound towers and pretty much ruining our enjoyment of 'Creeping Death' and 'Battery'. My mate through a pint of beer in one guys face and I thought there was going to be a melée for a second!

    i think it was:

    742617000027
    sic
    the blister exist?
    eyeless
    disasterpiece
    the heretic anthem
    spit it out
    duality
    wait and bleed
    (515)
    surfacing

i know they didnt play people = sh!t cause thats my fav song
i think thats the set list
the heretic anthem could have been after spit it out
actually now that i remember, i seen chris and shawn playing those snare? drums on there body so it probably was the blister exist
can anyone confirm that my setlist

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,949 ✭✭✭SouperComputer

i wasnt impressed by Metallica at all. regardless of sellout accusations etc, they played without conviction. Its just a job for them now it seems. Kirk has turned to $hit and Rob the bassist has a constant look on his face like he is taking a dump! Despite that, i still managed to loose a shoe in a mosh and subequently begged y way into the seating area. Worked a treat!

I thought fade to black & blackened were good, great opening with the good, bad and the ugly. but it just seemed like they were going through the motions, felt very fake. Im gona grab a copy of cliff em all to remind myself of teh good auld days!

Having said all that, id stiil go and see them again! The pyro, as always, was excellent.

Slipknot played a hefty set, not my favourite band, but nice to see the aggression getting out! Missed LP's would have liked to see them, I think they are alright, probably put more effort in to their gig than Metallica!

its amazing though how metallica just get bigger. Last time I saw them was 97 I think at the point, great gig and you could actually see the band. Even got to grab jason newstead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭Dr. Dodger

metallica are fookin awesome live and put on a great show,i personally would've paid double the price for them alone without the other two (who were mediocre but i think support acts sound always leaves alot to be desired), imo i think St. Anger is an alrite album and i enjoyed the two songs live, fast heavy and loud, isn't that what metallica is all about.

I don't give a shiot how old they are and how old they will be when i see them next because they are still the one of the greatest bands especially live.

any fan just has to look at the set list to start drooling uncontrollably and wish they could go back and do it all again

think about in years to come when they decide to stop touring how younger fans will be gutted to never get the chance to see metallica live!!

will it compare to how i feel now not gettin to see nirvana live

    answers on a postcard

it was special to hear Fade to Black and Master of Puppets, live, from the hands of the masters themselves.

Heh, every time a tune started, the GF thought it was Enter Sandman, and started wailing "EEEEXXIITTTT LIGHT....etc". She is no Metallica fan, but I think she enjoyed it more than I did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,717 ✭✭✭Praetorian

Lost Prophets were okay. Slip****e were better than I thought they would be. Metallica performed well on the night, although I didn't love the setlist.

Metallica proved their class by learning Whiskey again for us. I've never seen a crowd so delighted!

I thought last year was miles better.....still was a good show - but too much new stuff (by new i mean anything after "Justice").

preferred last years set by miles

still a good day out though

Seen them twice in concert in France years around 16 years ago and a couple of times in Ireland. The best memory was 4, 5 years ago when they used to play at the point.

Although this was the 1st time I see them play outdoor at the RDS, I thought this was a good concert, even considering they play the same thing on tour but what do you expect. The sound wasn't too great because of the wind, I presume. Have seen trujillo in concert years ago when he was playing with Infectious grooves.

Didn't think much of the support bands, so stayed in the back.

One kid had a T-shirt "Napster rulez, Metallica sucks" and he was headbanging mad.

in overall, I was satisfied with the concert.

I think lost prophets are a decent band but i thought they played **** on friday, dunno why just didnt get a good feeling off them, i dont know much of slipknots stuff but decided to watch them anyway, didnt enjoy them at all, not my thing and wouldnt rate them very highly in my eyes.

tis true metallica are sell outs, i never bought load or reload and never listen to st anger anymore but tis great to hear the old stuff live and jump around a bit for the craic :)

thought it was a good gig, good atmosphere, good crowd were i was, a little to the left of the middle and right up at the barrier before the pit. all in all a very enjoyable day.

lostprophets are a good band but didn't fit that bill in any way shape or form. to boot, their performance was ****. they just kinda stood around and played for 30minutes. uninspired to the extreme. also, almost all but one of the songs they played were from their second album, which sounds far too mtv-friendly.

slipknot were awesome. if they weren't on the bill i wouldn't have showed up. joey's drumkit was mad looking with the white symbols and what not. the performance was great, but i did think it was too short.

metallica were metallica. great show. nice pyro, good professional performance. the "solo" bits where rob and kirk had to entertain for 5 minutes each seemed a bit strange... because they were ****e.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

ah I wouldnt agree there. kirks was ****e yea but i thought robs was really good.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I liked Kirk's doodle. It wasn't really a solo but it was a nice little intro to NEM and his tone was a bit nice.

Rob's bass solo was fooking great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,070 ✭✭✭Placebo

you guys are right about LP, performance wasnt great, infact i`m trying really hard to remember how they played... i actually dint enjoy it, too much **** going on in pit , distracting me and erm could not hear vocals inside the pit !!!!! should have stayed outside,

    slippy looked great from far.
