what it looks like doesnt really tell you much about it. you really have to use the system. its actually hard to describe and it takes a little while to get used to it but it rocks!

    Hi All
I strated using Gmail yesterday and after a short while the system is really very good. I can see everyone taking to this as the filing system and "converstaion" system are very straight forward and easy to understand.

You can creat "Lables" for your mail which is in fact a filing system and then create simple rules to have your mails labled as they arrive and pre sorted into the folders you want, you then only have to read and "Archive" your emails to keep your inbox in order.

All in all a great system and invites will be availble shortly

    D:D :p

    i love it :)
have only had 3 or so email conversations with it so far, but i can easily see myself dumping every other account i have.
(time will tell if the spam filter works though)

shouldn't be too long before i get a couple of invites...

after you've had a gmail account for a few days (up to a week) you get given invites, which are basically links that someone else can follow to get themselves a gmail account.
pm me your email address if you want one, i'm not promising anything though

the system is still not perfect yet mind. it works extremly well with other gmail accounts but certain other accounts dont work so well. (intel for example)

oh yeah, i ****ing love the way it automatically retrieves mail without you refreshing the gmail page! - just leave gmail in your inbox & send a mail to it from another account to test it:)

Looks good, but I'm very happy with Runbox, so I'll wait and see. The whole invite thing puts me off too - if I want it, I'd like to be able to sign up for it, and not have to go scrounging an invite off someone.

Incidentally, Runbox are about to upgrade me to 1GB mail storage and a separate 100MB file storage - for no additional charge. So I'll stay where I am for the moment.

they are all doing it. which means that they could have done it long ago but just didnt. baxtards. thats why im happy with my move. but at the same time g-mail is a completly different system. organising e-mails is much easier. tbh i cant see how the other guys can compete. i can just imagine trying to find a specific e-mail with hotmail if i had a rake of emails. i would be pulling my hair out!

yahoo went from 6mb(?) to 100mb
hotmail are reportedly going from 2mb(scabby funks) to 250mb but it will take a while
and now runboy are in on it too.

kinda makes me think that maybe this whole gmail thing could actually be an april fools joke after all! im pretty sure its not just cos of the amount of work that has gone into developing the new system but still... it would be a class gag. all the other free e-mail companies are pushing up their available space... would be so funny!

    Can anyone explain,

    1. how did you get Gmail account first of all? did you buy it?

    2. what is all this fuss about the Gmail? ok 1 GB is nice but, it's still a mail after all!

    3. I read somewhere that it can be easilly hacked, and they advised against storing important mail in it!

    4. can anyone invite me please? I'll pm you my email

It would be easier if everyone stuck tpo the same thread, specially created for that purpose.

Wait til you get to use up 12 in one minute. It gets rather boring.

Why not just use the invites thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=169013

I signed up yesterday and I'm very impressed with it.

Gmail are the same, 10megs per attachment

Seems hotmail are also increasing their attachment limit to 10mb and also increasing their (FREE) mailbox size from 2mb to 250mb, following Gmail and Yahoo increases I suppose.

Ive been using GMail all day now and I must say it does have quite a lot of nice features. When emailing the list of contacts beginning with that letter to appear is a handy touch. Also the way it tells you who the next mail is from in the "conversation" style if you have to scroll down [bottom right corner for anyone who hasent noticed]

There will be a thing on RTÉ Radio 1 tonight at about 15 to or 10 to seven [5-7 live] as far as I know.

Might I be as bold as to suggest that those looking for, or offering, invites go to this thread where there is a fist-come-first-served list, (which seems fair?).. rather than spoiling every thread?

Its the whole system. Its not like your typical hotty mail or whatever. The way the "conversations" are organised, the way that you never have to open up the contact list, the way it refreashes itself... The list goes on!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

I am not tuned into what the conversations are about, can you enlighten me?
