    Guys & girls,

I suspect the answer is no to this question but I need independent verification.

My company are on the verge of acquiring a shiny new 1TB NAS box (iomega)... which is nice...

However I'm still in need of a replacement mail server & they want to know can they use this NAS as mail server as well.

i.e. They want to buy the NAS for file storage & also install exchange 2003 to it, for use as a mail server ?

    Anyone know ?

    TIA

As far as i know it's not supported. In fact.....here's an article about it that suggests that some Nas boxes will work and has a link in it to a compatability checker.

NAS= network Attached storage- i would recommend separate exchange server instead of sharing the two on the nas- i think mbroaders is right i have not come across one with a exchange on it.

I was you i would check with iomega first to see what they support- you might have to call them to get support and i you tell them you have a exchange on the box- they could tell you it is not supported you sort it out

According to the MS Eula, you can't legally use the bundled software to run application software, so you'd have to provide at the very least a new copy of Windows 2000 Server and purchase file sharing CALs for any machines that'll have to share this box, wiping off the provided server software.

Page 4. You can't even run word processing software off it without rejecting the MS EULA and reformatting without another OS.

Sounds like a non-legal piece of .... of the usual sort that gives MS a bad name and has half of the servers here switched to linux, but I'm not a lawyer.
