Does anyone know if there are any TV rental shops in Dublin/Drogheda? I'm sharing a house with some friends and we don't really want to spend 800 quid on a new TV!

You don't need to spend 800 quid; 200 will get you a reasonable one from power city (Beko), when you split up you can sell it on for 100 or raffle it between you.

Renting is dead money and they look for at least a 12 month contract, as well as the hassle of setting up direct debits etc.

RTV do rentals on TVs their main shop is just off O'Connell St. on Talbot (i think) St. though really you're probably better off getting one on 6 months intrest free credit from them rather than renting.

The few of you chipping in for the repayment will make it hurt less and I'm sure you'll be able to come to an amicable arrangement with regard to the TV when you're moving on.

Anyways RTV do the rentals and they seem nice enough.

rtv on talbot street is your best bet. They charge 13 euro a month for rental i think, i got a nice new 21" tv for that anyway.

don't want to harp on about it but renting at 13 euro a month * 12 months, that is the cost of a beko 28" in 1 year, and a jvc or philips 28" in 2 years.

RTV do interest free credit but aren't that cheap for TV's. DID often do interest free credit. But if there is 4 of you chipping in, you should be able to spare 60 euro each after payday.

In the days when a TV cost several weeks' wages, rental flourished, but there's really very little point in it these days, unless you absolutely must have the latest all-singing, all-dancing widescreen digital TV with the fancy "Makes apple pie too" attachment. :D

Brand new sets can be bought so cheaply nowadays that for any run-of-the-mill TV set renting is just throwing money away. Buy one in the supermarket or from a mail-order catalog etc. and if it lasts out the warranty period, you've got your money's worth out of it, especially if you shared the cost between several people.

Or you could forego the warranty and pick up a reasonable set second-hand. I'm sure a city the size of Dublin must have plenty of second-hand stores.
