    Sorry about this :)

My gf's 21st, she wants a digital camera. That's the background.

All she knows is that she wants one that will work with one of those sit-camera-on-this-and-it'll-print-your-photos jobbies. You know what I mean?

I'm looking at around 4/500e mark, and I'd like the camera to be in some way good, so I decided I'd ask here :)

    any help/suggestions?

    Thanks

Kodak have one that has a printer base afaik.

I've got a Canon S40 with a seperate dye sub Canon printer. Very compact & perfect photolab quality.

to be honest, you'd probably be better off to get a decent camera and then get your photos printed at a lab or over the internet with the likes of spectra.

Get yourself into a camera shop, see what they've got that meets the requirements and then find a better price online. I think that's what we all do at this stage :D

Well she wants a mini printer so she'll bloody well get one :p

I like the look of the S40, I'm gonna keep looking around anyway :)

Slightly off topic, but I was conidering buying a photo printer myself.
Do you save money with the price of cartridges etc... compared to getting photos printed in a shop?

having them printed in shops works out cheaper generally if you print a lot of pictures. If you only do the very occasional print you should get your own printer.

have a look at the prices on http://www.photobox.ie/static/services.html

The cartridge & paper for my Canon CP200 was €20 last time I checked. That does 36 prints. That's what? around 55c per print? That's the same as what it is in most photolabs, unless of course youre getting a big order done as DotOrg said. I don't print that many really but the printer is dead handy and better than going to the trouble of bringing your CF card into a lab to get maybe 5 or 6 prints done.

actuall, the past year has seen prices come right down for standard 6x4 prints from digital. Spectra agents will do 25 prints for €6.99 or if you do 100 prints they cost 15 cent a print

and quality and lastability will be quite a bit longer than inkjet prints

Well I had been looking at the Ixus range already, and I had my eye on This 430

So that's what we went for seeing as you recommended its little brother!

    And got the SC200 too.

    Good buys? :)

*edit* 460e for the Ixus 430 and 200e for the sc200

I get my photos from Boots, you can get 40 4x6 prints for about €7 or €8. Its amazing how much the price of digital prints has come down. You can still find some smaller outlets that are charging an arm and a leg.

    Did I mention that I have a....

I bought this one in Walmart over in the States. Came with the Camera Dock (not the printer Dock). Excellent quality and very easy to use. You can of course buy the printer dock seperatly.

I was wondering actually. Is there anywhere in Dublin where you can use a machine to select what prints you want done yourself. These machines are all over the States. You just stick your memory card in, select your pics to be printed, and they are done there and then for you. Is there anything like that here or do you have to hand over your memory card to something and come back later?

The Fuji (I think its Fuji) film processing shop on georges street just oppsite The George, it has a machine like that. I don't think you'll get the pictures there and then but you don't have to leave the memory card with them.
