i just formatted a friends pc back to win 98se and now find that i cant find the drivers for the modem - after searching the house he came back witha slip of paper which said the modem was a Rockwell HCF 56k Data Fax ... PCI Modem.

Now i have no proof of this as it's only written on the bottom of the page but i went to driver-guide.com and dl a heap of drivers for the above but none of them work?

Is ther any way of finding out for sure what kinda modem it is and what driver it wants?

    Any help greatly appreciated...

Try this page. Quite a few there are probably duplicates, but it's probably one of these. What make / model computer is this? Is it a name brand? If so you could check the manufacturers website. Alternatively take out the modem and look for any identifying codes etc on it.

Oh, (nearly fogot the obvious) ask him does he have any other cd's lying around that came with the computer

Ive tried all relevant ones on that page and nothing. didnt try whatadap yet but i will after.

He did get a driver cd with the pc -a belnea i think - some kind of german make - but the modem drivers it had werent correct !!

the pc is a p3 450mhz - 64meg ram and 10gig hdd - would win xp pro run on it?? that would surely solve all my probs re drivers

i tried this last night and during setup i was told certain dll's couldnt be copied and so it eventually got bsod. what might have caused this? lack of ram or maybe cdrom drive or even scratched cd??

The adap thing will find your modem and part no and then google will find your drivers.

I thought you needed at least 128mb of ram to run XP?
